I'm looking to buy a new mp3 player with just a few gigs of memory. I could go around reading website reviews, but I'm wondering if there's any general consensus on what the best brand/model currently is. For those wondering, the last one I had was a zen micro.

Not gonna lie, although the iPod touch is expensive, it's really a good MP3 player. I can't use one becuase I need my 160 GB iPod.

Ah, I still have my micro. This might not be what you want, but the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones are good MP3 players. Granted you need to get a new phone.

I've always wanted one of the Creative Zen ones, that are like the size od a credit card, with a nice screen and stuff.

I wouldn't reccomend iPod, because the sound quality isn't at all as good as many others.

In that case, you automatically win (Y) and should go for the Creative Zen X-Fi :)
I have one, I had a few problems with it at first but I love it, definitely worth the money.
Either stick with Creative, like I have over the years :) or get a Zune.
My boyfriend has had two and they are fantastic mp3 players. Be warned though, if you don't live in America you'll need to import it, but well worth the cost I'd say :)
Stay away from Apple...

...anything except an iPod...

...and now for something a little more constructive. I personally have a Creative Zen Stone 2GB. Holds more than enough songs, is small, pretty cheap (well, cheaper than the equivalent iPod anyway) and doesn't require specific software to add songs (like say iTunes).

Zune is a great mp3 player. Much better than the iPod lines.

I would recommend a Zune or a Sansa.

i have a touch and a sony a818 (old model). and i always find myself picking up my sony because of the superior sound quality. however, if you want a touch but dont want to fork over £320 ($400) for a glorified plastic screen, sony have launched their own OLED touch screen walkman. it'll be out end of may and cost £280 (approx. $350). or you could buy the wirefree walkman which comes with wireless headphones standard priced at £/$ 100

I've got a Sandisk Fuse 8gb (with an 8gb card too). Its basically an iPod without having to use iTunes, it works off Windows Media Player. I cant rate it highly enough.

Stay away from apple

everything else does the same and better apart from some tacky 'apps' and costs a lot less

looking for a good one with a reasonable price tag? Creative x-fi or a zune

looking to spend a bit more but actualy SEE the difference? go for a PMP
Archos Gen 5 and 7 are great for watching HD movies on, if your willing to pay a little more

Zunes are pretty good. They are designed to be better than iPods. I know the creative line has its strengths though. I haven't done my homework on them at all, but they have piqued my interest. My next MP3 player will be either one of those or a Zune.

I just read Zune works with Xbox. Anyone done stuff with that?

Explain what?

If you mean the iPod sound quality... I've had an iPod Classic, a Nano, and a Shuffle in my time, and none of them compared in sound quality to even one of the £30 MP3 players from Argos or wherever. You're really paying for the brand name and the fact that iPods are 'cool'.
