I just saw a live report on NBC about this.
Apparently somebody killed the leader of team USA's men's beach volleyball team early this morning in Beijing, and they believe that no foul play was involved.
No foul play my ass, the USA was supposed to play later tonight, what do all of you think?

Sorry that I have no link, there's no official report up yet, remember, it was on live.

On a side note, during the video, it was so smoggy in Beijing that you could barely see the building behind the reporter, lol.

Normally I would shrug this off as a xenophobic take on a tragic accident but China seems really determined to look good during these Olympics and... no wait... no one gives a fuck about Men's volleyball. Sounds like the plot of a bad disney movie.

Dude, how could somebody kill someone else, and there be no foul play involved. Unless you mean someone accidentally broke his neck by tripping him over, or he tripped and fell on a steak knife someone around him was carrying. I'm confused.
Until the final story comes out, I wouldn't like to assume anything. At first glance, if what you say is correct, something seems a little strange.

^ The actual story.

"BEIJING (AP)?The fatal stabbing of the father of a former Olympian at a Beijing landmark cast a sad shadow over the first full day of Olympic competition Saturday, just hours after China?s jubilant opening of the Summer Games.

Todd and Barbara Bachman of Lakeville, Minn.?parents of 2004 volleyball Olympian Elisabeth ?Wiz? Bachman and in-laws of U.S. men?s volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon?were attacked by a Chinese man while visiting the 13th-century Drum Tower."

Well, that's not what they meant by foul play. They're talking about this possibly being an attempt to sabotage the USA's performance in the Olympics.

Maybe you fellow Americans are gonna stone me for this, but frankly it wouldn't surprise me if this was a total coincidence. In a country run as rigidly as China, there are plenty of chances for a guy to just snap. Especially with the Olympics upping that rigid control of theirs a few thousand notches.

Um, is that ignorant of me to think like that?

Of course it's not ignorant. I mean, murder isn't exactly the most subtle form of sabotage, I'm sure it was just some nut that lost it.

I agree. Thank goodness it wasn't an important sport.

I don't think it was sabotage, there's much better ways to break a team than killing the coach's in-laws, I say it's just a coincidence.

Is there a major city that doesn't have muggers? I would be amazed if there were an Olympics that passed without at least one foreigner dying in a random act of violence. This just happens to be China and the US, and the victim happened to be related to an athlete so it gets more press time. Suspecting the Chinese government is just paranoid nonsense.

Dude! Don't. Want. To. Know.

Anyways, I somehow think that the Olympic Games are above the pettiness of murder plots. Though, I don't know the human race as well as I should've.

BEIJING (AP)?Police tightened security Sunday as they investigated the fatal stabbing of the father of a former U.S. Olympian, an attack that stunned the athletic community and embarrassed Chinese authorities determined to hold the most successful Summer Games ever.

Article said:
Shortly after the attack, the assailant, Tang Yongming, 47, leapt to his death from a balcony on the Drum Tower, just five miles (eight kilometers) from the main Olympics site, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
Uh...ya' know, this DOESN'T sound like a mugging. More like, a person gone insane; or an assassin.

Man...it may be a coincidence and this may just be an American thing but it feels like the s*** suddenly hit the fan over the past two days. Olympics start, Russia & Georgia go to war, Bernie Mac dies, 9 firefighters died in a helicopter crash, and whatever other awful thing can be conceived of.

I dunno, full moon or something.

I know that there is a view that certain US states hate foreigners commies in particular but going to war with an entire country? Or am I missing something, Ray Charles never mentioned there rabid xenophobia in his famous song!

Oh and I reckon it's coincidence being turned into mitigating circumstances for China being added to the axis of evil
