You think it takes a human to make music that is nice to listen to? Think again.

Otomata is a generative sequencer that employs a cellular automaton to produce sounds.

Here is an example that produces pretty a pretty complex pattern with only 5 cells.. and it's strangely relaxing to listen to.

I now have this bookmarked. First song I made it was immediately awesome. And you're right, it's so relaxing. I now have something perfect to have in the background while I work or study without interrupting my train of thought.

Cancel music, world, we just turned it into casual gaming. And it's awesome.

Essentially this.

Ahaha, this is awesome.

I love having Audacity, too, since I can record some stuff and use it later. :D

Pretty mellow piece I discovered here [http://earslap.com/projectslab/otomata/?q=526o657f1h1v220j].

I say discovered because I don't feel like I made it. Still cool.

Music is mathematical. You have 7 basic notes and then you throw in a few sharps and flats. You can throw in any combination of the notes and *someone* in the world will genuinly like the music (for example Justin Bieber).

Very cool.

I have some trouble trying to make patterns that don't repeat themselves though.
When I don't just press randomly, that is.

If you're having issues with that, just pause it, and turn some of the cells so that they'll run into other cells. And don't expect instant change, it takes a few cycles for the changes to become noticeable.

But that's no fun. Then it's I that change the song. I want to just place some cells and watch them go on forever without looping the same line.
