Ocean Eyes is the latest (and most popular) Album of retro American Synth-pop Band Owl City. now nothing particularly drew me into this band. it certainly wasn't talk-of-the-town. but when I heard a snippit of a certain song on the car radio I must concede it was catchy.

Now firstly I Have no Idea what Synth-pop is. if asked to take a wild guess I'd go for a Genre that bases it's songs entirely around one catchy jingle. because look up catchy jingle in the dictionary and you will see Adam Young sucking a few more ring-tones off his Synth.

now I had just heard about thirty seconds of the song whilst in the car so i didn't have time to hang around for the name. so I did what I always do when I want to know more about a song but have no idea what it's called. I googled the lyrics and found that it was of course "Fireflies" the albums only real headliner. now most of you will have probably heard this song but not the rest of the album. in this case I advise you to get up and buy it because it is seriously good. If your too fat to move please buy it off I-Tunes. bordering on awesome apart from its few flaws, the music is well executed and beautifully presented with a heart-warming touch to many of the songs. it also has this felling of "Homemade Music." The music is so beautiful that you could have Sound tracked the Album for the movie "Avatar" (which I plan to review if all goes well) and it would be deemed fitting by many.

The Album does however seem to suffer from severe multiple personality disorder, Switching incoherently from BassHunter to Mika To High school musical for Christ's sake but seeing as they all round them off pretty well I wont complain too much

However there is one big problem with "Ocean Eyes."

Listen to "Fireflies" around 12 times perhaps playing random notes on your own keyboard as well if you have one and you basically have the whole album sorted. all the songs, while having their own catchy jingle, all sound very alike. But still, all the songs have this feeling of serene contentment that i could never really get tired of.

Also some of the lyrics for the songs are very weak. "Dental Care" for instance is entirely about the dentists. Whilst I have nothing against dentists I never saw them as great writing material.

But really this is overall a good review. A relaxing album that offers a great sense of freedom to the listener and lyrics, while not being about anything special, that make me smile.

BEST SONG

choosing my best song form this pile before me was not easy seeing as they all sound the same. but if pushed I would say "Hot Air Balloon" had the jingliest of the jingles.

That was a decent review, but you need to work on the structure a bit. You also say it's really good, but some of the things you wrote suggest you don't like it. You need to say why something is good and bad in a much clearer and concise way.

Anyways, Welcome to the Escapist. It's safer here. Sit down, relax, talk, have fun. Just stay away from the medicince cabinet. You should also stay away from the basement. Strange shit happens there.

Capital letters and such weren't included here and there - sorry I'm a Nazi these things annoy me.

Owl City is actually one guy not a band, useful fact. Decent enough review though, I have to disagree with your opinions, while Fireflies is pretty good the album itself is rather boring. I was soon distracted by Biffy Clyro's new album. (Which is very good by the way I suggest you look it up)

cheers me dears. thanks for reading. as for my opinion i dunno, maybe the albums many personalities are rubbing off on me, i guess the best way to describe it is that there are a lot of things i can get bitchy about, it's just that i personally thought the end product was enough for Ocean Eyes to get away with it. everything can be criticised because nothings perfect right?

That was a very nice review. And you are spot on about the album having a sort of serene feeling. From what i have heard of it it hit the right notes, but it did sound kinda repetitive.
However you may wish to try adding a song or two to help people get an idea what your talking about.
