Musicians that break the mold

Music (in the popular sense) seems to have his a plateau, and it's been there for a while

Which artists do you think give us something new, different and innovative?

I must mention Tosin Abasi from animals as leaders
No one plays/sounds like him

His mix of clean tone over distorted and vice versa
His incredible playing technique and his ability to focus more on repetition of incredibly complex phrases as opposed to making a song out of a gigantic solo.

Couple that with animals as leaders overall musical direction and *boom* there goes my mind.

Thing is, most of the time people ask for new and innovative music and almost all the time they do not like what they hear. Toby Driver is amazing but most people have trouble listening to his music.
