So earlier today at work I was thinking about some scenes from films as it helps pass the time, I started thinking of a scene from the film Anchorman and nearly started laughing to myself. As I work in a supermarket and lots of people were around I was really trying not to burst out laughing in the middle of the shop floor and look like a total douche in front of loads of customers.

So for discussion: Have you ever thought of something really funny in a public area and tried not to start laughing in front of all the strangers around you. If so what were you thinking of and where were you?

I have thought of something very funny in public I just don't stop myself from laughing.
And most of the time it's in school and some random connection I make while ignoring people telling me things I already know.

I do that sometimes... but I dont care unless I am being verbally torn to pieces and I am supposed to look like I have been punished. Thats normally when I crack up too.

Yes. I was on a very crowded subway, on my way to school. I forget what I was thinking of as it was about 2 years ago, but I just couldn't help it. Middle of the subway, laughing hysterically, as if I was out of my mind. I couldn't stop laughing, I was sitting on the floor in tears, I was laughing so hard. It came to my stop, I calmed down, stood up, and went to school, and as I was walking past all the subway cars, I noticed I was getting some very concerned looks from the passengers.

All. The. Time. I hate it but it's funny. And it being funny makes me want to laugh even more. This usually happens when walking to and from classes at University. Considering the freak show that walks from class to class there, it wouldn't be weird for me to burst out laughing. But still embarrassing!

I've thought of silly lines in movies and laugh just about anywhere I am. Most people think i have mental problems because of it but I really don't care.

I have a problem with occassionally finding great humor in peoples descriptions of their personal tragedies. You know, stuff like how your dad just died by getting pulled into a cotton candy machine.

I used to work with a lady who has gone through four husbands and each died pretty horribly (severed own artery with chainsaw, touched high tension power line at work, hit by diesel rig and scerosis of the liver) and it was hard not to laugh and ask her if she would please marry a few different guys I hate.

Am I sick in the head?

I was thinking about Pulp Fiction and the infamous "What!?" scene.

So I re-enacted it with an unsuspecting person who I knew hadn't seen the film and followed according to the script. It worked like a charm.

(Minus the gun + bible part.)

Happens to me quite a bit. I suddenly remember a line I read in a book, or something a character said in a film, and I start laughing. Usually I can suppress it to just a smile though, even I though I still look ridiculous, just smiling for no reason on the train. People in Melbourne don't usually smile on trains, they look grim and unhappy to be alive.

In year 9 my class went on a school trip to a mosque in Manchester. We were all quietly ushered quietly into the prayer hall,[footnote]All the girls had to cover their heads with headscarves.[/footnote] having been given strict instructions to be hushed and respectful, so it was the kind of atmosophere you might feel if you went to a strangers funeral. We were then all sat along the back wall to observe the worshippers. About seven men silently entered the prayer hall, and soon began the whole prayer ritual. But instead of kneeling down like you might do in a church, they bent down instead so we all had a wonderfully clear view of the rear ends of several middle aged men.

That's when the urge to laugh began to consume me, and it only got worse and worse as i gazed at these men pointing their arses at me. They looked so undignified that they may as well have entered the prayer hall in flourecent mankini's. It was fifteen minutes of agony as i fought the urge to burst out laughing until they, mercifully, left the prayer hall.

I then remember turning to my friend, and he told me 'I don't know about you, but if you had burst out laughing i would have done the same!'

I can't say this has happened to me, but I have a teacher with a very similar, but greatly inflated, tendency.

If something get's him to laugh REALLY hard, then he'll remember the last time he laughed REALLY hard, then he'll remember what made him laugh so hard that time, and then he'll laugh some more.

It was really entertaining when we made him crack up in class, and he had to spend five to ten minutes getting the laughs out before he could teach without dissolving into giggles.

THIS has been responsible for many instances similar to that:
The whole video is really funny, but if you want to see what I'm talking about watch :16 through :24.
Whenever I think about that part I usually burst out laughing

someone i know whent on a trip to a mosque and when they where praying they had to sit on these cushions next to a radiator. anyway something happened to cause a massive fart noise.
farts arent funny but the reaction from the teachers and basically everyone there was brilliant.
