So, I'm just new to the 3D world, been at it for about a month now and I've just finished my first real piece of work. Here it is here: http://lynx-lambda.deviantart.com/#/d3rh1sj
It's Pikachu! yay...
So, I modeled it from just a plain reference image, then unwrapped, textured and rigged the little electric mouse in about 2 days. I know the ears didn't turn out quite right, but when it came down to it, I thought it ended up alright for a first effort.
So, what are your thoughts/critiques/advice/job offers/lame trolling attempts/opinions?
Much appreciated.

This isn't really the place for this... go to sheezyart or newgrounds if you want more places to post.

Tail is spot on! However (in my opinion) the face seems a little un-pikachuish. I think it's the mouth. Then again I may be jealous because there is no way in hell I could do that :p

Nice work man :)

I agree maybe pulling the muzzle out a little bit might make his face look a bit more true, but other than that, damn nice work!

I think his body should have a little more fat, more barrel like if you ask me. His ears should be on a closer angle to the head and more to the back. That was for critique, for the rest great work dude.

I don't really know a lot about art and this kind of 3D modelling, but it looks okay to me. I don't know what the expected learning curve for this kind of stuff is, but if I had just started and made that in two days, I would be really satisfied.

But what kind of criticism are you looking for? What are your goals for this? If you want to make art, I would maybe expect you to make something more original. If you want a job, it's probably good for your resume/portfolio, but I'd say you have to get a bit better before you can call yourself a professional.

For either, this is probably a very good start, if you're just trying to learn how to do this stuff. What is going to be your next project?

I think that the face seems a little flat, but great work! It's quite impressive for an early project.

@GrizzlerBorno 3Ds Max 11. As a Birthday/Christmas/Easter/Everythingelse present. But as long as I don't give up on it, which I won't! I did get a very good cringe when I told them the price though... But, at the moment, I only have the student versions, which is practically the same.
@Jordi Well, a number of things. Holidays are ending in a couple of days, so I think on Sunday I might try to model Antylamon from Digimon's; "Hurricane Touchdown", then try, and I emphasize try, to mechanize it. You know; give it massive shoulders, extendible armour plated arms, the works.
@JochemDude Haha, funny you mention that, because the images are actually scaled sideways to fit on the image.

And yeah I know about the face... Haha, it nearly killed me to do, but I thought it had a different edge on it in the end. That and I couldn't go back and rerender the UVW's again...

Very nice work actually, good to see you've got a nice 3D rendering package!, pretty sweet. Keep it up and I don't see why you wont have a bright future ahead of you.

But in future could you keep your deviant art page in your Escapist profile, that's where blogs and websites go, sorry!
