So I was reading my newspaper when this story caught my eye

http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/08/portland_lemonade_stand_runs_i.html
(Yes it is probably a slow news day because it was on the front page right below P8 getting knocked down in California)

Whats your opinion of this? Should this action have been taken or does the Oregon government need to find that soul it apparently sold to Satan for an uneven budget a few years ago?

Aww my thread didn't take off. That makes me a sad sad Canid.
You live in Oregon, you should already be a sad Canid.
But looking at the article, that is pretty ridiculous, a child should not have to have a license to run a lemonade stand, I never needed one.

What the hell! Who's in charge of that stupid rule, Skeletor?

That's something that's so evil, it falls into the realm of cartoonish. God damn.

Overall this is ridiculous.

People know that a 7 yr olds lemonade stand isn't going to be "up to code" and are aware that its THEIR fault if they get sick from it (which is improbably to happen anyway).

Our Government needs to start putting general responsibility back into the hands of the people, instead of creating frivolous and imposing regulations on us.

And of course, the comments on that article make me lose faith in humanity.

Seriously, stupid red tape b.s. like this is just ridiculous, regardless of what your political beliefs are.

Besides fixing a 400 million dollar budget deficit? Not really no.

I am somewhat fond of my state thank you very much. At least we haven't (insert whatever the worst thing your state has done here) as far as I am aware.

I'm betting the guy who made this law is twisting his comically long mustache and laughing maniacally.

This reminds me a bit of that Boondocks episode.

Wow, that's funny and kind of sad too. Poor kid. I mean like really, does the Oregon Government have anything better to do?

Your lucky I don't want to say 9/11, because that would be insensitive and not even something my state did wrong (but I could still say it none the less!). But yeah living in New York isn't all that great either.

I love how the reader comments section on the original story can only go about 5 comments before a giant flame war breaks out between barking Tea Partyers and condescending liberals.

The problem here is one of bureaucratic simple-mindedness resulting from what appears to have been a short-sighted, poorly-worded state law. I highly doubt anyone really thinks little kids' lemonade stands are a serious public safety issue. That talking fax machine they quoted in the article as defending the shut down is just doing what he's been programmed to do - defend his enforcement of the law, no matter what it is, which is his job.

The lawmakers of Oregon just need to sit down for two minutes and come up with a fix that will exempt tiny barely-businesses from the law. Shouldn't be a big deal.

Where the real insanity will come in is if they refuse to do this because "DEAR GOD WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN." Then it'll get funny.

That sound you just heard was my mind shitting itself inside out, because of the sheer balls out lunacy of that story. That's something that I would expect to see from a movie parodying government regulation, or in Non-Sequitur. What in the hell were they trying to prove with that move?

Your state didn't do it but your state is also where Bernie Maddoffs offices were so I can blame that on your state.

That's so horrible - protect the public? From what? I think they were a bit over the top with that. She's just a kid, and she wanted to sell lemonade.

By the power vested in me by the internet and my own ego I hereby declare that Oregon is no longer a state. All Oregon politicians will be banished to hell and all citizens will be moved to other states of their choosing. The land that was once Oregon will be converted into a giant lemonade stand to be run by that 7 year old girl.

OT: Someone needs to go blow up the statue of liberty because we don't deserve to have it anymore. If a child can't even try to run an innocent lemonade stand without the government fining her for every infraction then there is a serious problem. I am fed up with our government, I hope they all fucking die.
