ok so me and my gf are playing fallout nv and she remarks that the nightstalker is what she would consider the best interpretation of her peoples (shes mexican) mythological creature the chupacdbra except it doesn't eat goats only npc's (sad joke) anyway this got me thinking about welsh mythological creatures and the only weird one really is the pond jumper which is a frogs body and head with the wings of a bat and a reptilian tail with a venomus stinger. so the question is what is your countrys wierdist mythological creature and would you like to see it in a game or is it in one already? personally id love to c a game with a pond jumper in it id name him hwyll and go on mystical adventures together.

Nessy is the obvious one I guess.

There's The Haggis which some locals use to trick foreigners into going Haggis hunting.

Not my country's (American over here.) mythological creature but I think the Baltic concept of the Hound Of God would make for a pretty neat game. To make it simple, they're werewolves who battle the forces of the devil.

Ach! Ninja'd by the OP.

Guess i will go with a Swedish one then...

One called Näken (Translates to: The nude.) Hangs out at rivers trying to lure people in to it with music. Don't really now much more about it.

Australia has the Bunyip and the Rainbow Snake. I don't find Australian Aboriginies culture to be interesting at all, they didn't have much of an imagination. So no I wouldn't care to see them in any videogames.

Also there is already a chupacabra in Fallout New Vegas. An invisible one with two heads and fangs that reach the ground; armed with an automatic weapon, a blunderbuss that rotates and fire bullets from a backpack.

I'm pretty sure we (sweden) invented the short elves (the ones who are santa's helpers nowadays). Except back in the day they were cruel bastards who would pretty much ruin your life if the porridge you gave it was too warm (and if you forgot to give it porridge, may God have mercy on your soul).

As for games, I'm not too sure though. Or actually, they could make Farmville almost interesting.

That seems to be a pretty common theme across mythologies.

Over in southeast America, we have a unique variation on the werewolf called the "Dirty Big Town ************". It takes the form of a youthful, handsome gentlemen from the big city who smells vaguely of tire rubber--it likes to prey on young, insecure females who have just entered their sixteenth or seventeenth year, and it does so by planting seeds of dissent and hatred into their minds. Ultimately, the victim feels nothing but disgust towards its friends and family members and runs away into the open arms of the Dirty ************, whereupon it reveals its ture colors as a hideous lupine beast of the night and rips it limb from limb, consuming the victim's entrails over the course of three years. It can only be killed by being bludgeoned with a burning crucifix--it will simply reform itself if it suffers any other wounds.

Trufax.

DUUUUUUUUUUDEEEE-wait...that depends on how you mean it. The first thought was farmvillagers being happy, pulling up their beetroot or whatever when suddenly Nessie writhes across the screen toward a duckpond, taking all their animals, crops, land and misc. items with it. which was funny in the "ha! my sister would be so angry if that happened to her way"
then i thought "oh gosh, maybe this guy is seriously considering the fact that it would be fun to save up to buy a chupacdbra, which he could milk once a day or something". then a final thought was them being able to buy 'the pond jumper' and train it to go and...'help out' at their friends farms *puts on sunglasses/takes them off*

ahem, aside from the non-funnyness, i don't really know of any traditional British mythological creatures...aside from the ones explored in video-games already (or at least in Lord of the Rings).
J.K. Rowling had some good ones though, in that "mythical creatures and where to find them" book she did for charity. such as the massive Scottish hairy arachnid-like Mammals that were once people, but got turned into these monsters by wizards and in revenge killed the wizards, but then realised afterwards that meant they had no way of returning back to humans... probably doesn't count though ;)

Slenderman? he's a german mythological creature and he scares the crap out of me...he'd be brilliant in a game...or rather, always being glimpsed further away in the background of the game, occasionally being seemingly closer. and never ending up being a semi-chubby boy with his face painted white  I'M LOOKING AT YOU MARBLEHORNETS

Holy shit! I just googled that and it blew my mind. Dropbears absolutely must feature in a game at some point.

If I recall correctly, it mostly tried to lure children. It could also take the shape of a really long horse, and when a bunch of children sat on it, it would ride into the river and drown them.

I was thinking along your first thought. As in, if you don't appease mythological creature X, it will ruin your day royally. And optimally, you should not be able to appease them all without pissing off at least one.

Well...I don't know about mythological creatures and such, so I don't know if this will even count. Here in Minnesota, we have statues in Bemidji which honor a certain giant lumberjack of folklore and his big blue ox.

Not sure if the big blue ox in question will count, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see what you guys think.

The Mothman

I have no idea where this thing came from, or what sort of drugs led people to see some half man/half moth

Greek mythology is packed to the brim with them. Debateable on which ones havent appeared in games yet.

But i live in England and the closest thing we have to a mythical creature is in Scotland. Someone already mentioned Nessie so ill put out the succubus and incubus. Vampire variants that kill you with sex.

Slenderman was created by the internet for the internet.

Anyway, Scotlands got Nessie, and the wild Haggis' that roam the Highlands. And about 90% of all ghosts centered in Edinburgh Castle, if you believe the tours...

Sounds like a snipe to me. Tell me, do you make girls go out in their bra and panties to find one?

Cause thats how you snipe hunt in PA. The more girls in panties you get, the better the snipe hunt your are.

27. Thats my number, in case anyone is wondering. I'm third best snipe hunter in the area. The two above me are 29 (i'm gonna pass that this weekend probably), and 54. Yes, I said 54, and no thats not a typo. The kid is my best friend's brother, and he is a god at snipe hunting.

OT: I give you: The Hell Biker, the Mothman, and the Jersey Devil. First two are in persona 3 and persona 3 fes (which you can actually probably find alot of mythological/theological beings in). The third had his one game on the PS1. In their respective order:

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080808222106/megamitensei/images/8/8c/MothmanP4.PNG
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/63/Jersey_Devil_PSX.jpg/250px-Jersey_Devil_PSX.jpg

There's probably more, but I'd have to go look, and I'm way to lazy/not bothered to search through ALL the persona and devils/monsters in the Persona/SMT series.
