So yeah, perhaps I'm just not easily scared in the slightest or I'm looking in all the wrong places, but I realized just now that I can count all the games I've played that I found genuinely scary on one hand. If you're like me, name all of them - If not, name all the games you've played that you found scary because it's summer and I need something to do in the middle of the night.
1: Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Unfortunately, I don't have a very good gaming PC so I only got to play this on a friend's computer for a short while. But in that short time, I'm not afraid to admit that I was pulled in by the atmosphere and ran like a ***** when a monster first showed up.
2: Silent Hill 2
I can hardly think of a game that I've played that I found more emotionally crushing than this. Seriously, whenever I attempt to walk around the town I feel like my entire body is enclosed in all the worst experiences of my life, compressed in the terror of James Sunderland's situation. So I guess I'd name this as the scariest game I've ever played, but I wouldn't call it perfect like...
3: Slender
In my opinion, this is the only truly perfect horror game. It's short, but it's also unexplained and hopeless - Everything a horror game should be. It's also short, but it's also free, so what reason do you have for NOT playing it?
4: Resident Evil 4 (A bit)
This was a rather weird game for me, because while it definitely didn't scare me the entire time (Towards the end it literally stopped being scary at all) some of the early sections did creep me out. There's something unsettling about the emotionless villagers just wandering towards you, waiting to be shot in the face.
