For me:

1. Drive (2011) (waits to be called a pretentious hipster)
2. Children of Men (2006)
3. Black Swan (2010)
4. Micheal Clayton (2007)
5. Psycho (1960)

Edit: The Pretentious hipster bit is because I have been called that when I mention that Drive is my all time favorite movie.

2. The Thing (1982)
3. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
4. The Rock (1996)
5. Platoon (1986)

Honorable mentions for the original three Indiana Jones movies, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Event Horizon.

1. The Little Mermaid (1989)
2. Labyrinth (1986)
3. The Last Unicorn (1982)
4. Jurassic Park (1993)
5. Mulan (1998)

5 was the only real hard choice. My top three have been solidified for close to twenty years, and I often joke with my friends that Jurassic Park is "my favorite movie that does not begin with 'L'". But I've never thought past that, so I basically just took the first movie that came to mind.

Drive was a weird film, Driver was too mysterious. Although I thought the *read spoiler*
part where he stomps on the gangsters face in the elevator, was very well done.

Top Five
1. Planet Of The Apes(1968)
2. The Thing(1982)
3. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
4. Machete
5. Desperado(Possibly Pulp Fiction)

Casual Shinji

1. Ghostbusters
2. Akira
3. Drive
4. The Royal Tenenbaums
5. The Incredibles

For me there's a difference though between "the best" and "my favourite". And this list is also in constant motion, though Ghostbusters is always #1.

Also, how could you be called a pretentious hipsters for loving a fucking brilliant movie?

Drive was awesome, how does that make you a hipster?

I love too many movies to make a Top 5, but Michael Mann's Heat (1995) would be at the top of the list.

A list of my top 5? Tough. I would easily place Scorsese's Gangs of New York at the top of my list. After that? Hmm...

LoTR Trilogy, Director: Peter Jackson (I'll count that as one)

The Departed, Director: Martin Scorsese

Gladiator, Director: Ridley Scott

Saving Private Ryan, Director: Steven Spielberg

That's the best list I could conjure up. I think it's a solid list.

Wait, of course I think it's a solid list. It's my list. Why would I make it if I thought otherwise?

Now there's a thought. And another. And another! How many thoughts? So many thoughts...

[sub][sub]Too many thoughts. I've over-thought! Or under-simplified? Gaaaahhh!!![/sub][/sub]

Oh, for the love of god why?! That's just Richard Burton trying to be manly and Clint Eastwood nonchalantly racking up one hell of a kill count to almost be his own FPS. LOL

(Don't worry, I like the film too, silly German accents aside.)

OT: Hmmm... there are too many good films out there for me to genuinely pick a top five, so I'll attempt to pick one from five genres:

War -

...

...

fuck it, I'll just pick five from the war genre:

A Bridge Too Far - not entirely historically accurate, but fuck me it's powerful...
Tora! Tora! Tora! - this is a military analyst's film, and not a foot goes wrong in telling the story
Waterloo - just for that battle and the music, I'd watch it over and over again (and again, doesn't put a foot wrong in the narrative)
Stalingrad - um... I don't think I'll explain this one.
Kelly's Heroes - hey, gotta have some fun in here somehow, and no warfilm is as fun as this one (DONALD SUTHERLAND FTW!!)

That is a difficult task! I don't think I'll be able to make a ranked list, but I can name some of my favorites:

Sunshine (2007)
Great sci-fi movie, with stunning visuals and music.

Reservoir Dogs (1992)
A wonderful thriller-drama by Quentin Tarantino. The dialogue in this movie always draws me back to watch it just one more time!

Star Wars III (2005)
For some reason, this is my favorite Star Wars movie. It's where "shit go down" as they say.

The Matrix (1999)
The philosophical nature of this movie puts it up a notch from other action movies. And it's a good movie of course!

Howl's Moving Castle is definitely my number one film. I have 4 other favorites but I can never put them in order.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Kick Ass
American Psycho
Snatch.

They're all fantastic films but Howl's Moving Castle just tops everything.
