For one thing, the makers of the game probably have Dante Aligeri rolling in his grave over this. In his book, he said the unbaptised went to Purgatory, a place in Hell that wasn't necessarily bad (his opinion), just not neccessarily as good as Heaven. The game has turned unbaptised babies into freakin' demons. Its just slightly disgusting... But I might play the game anyway...
Dante was rolling in his grave when they made the game into something that has almost nothing to do with the poem he wrote, except being set in hell.

A game set in Hell. That's NEVER, EVER been done before.

Oh well, I thought it was pretty clever
Explain to me how killing babies is funny or clever.
It's not

What I find funny is the achievement is called "Bad Nanny" which is gained through killing babies. Killing children and such are not really qualities in a good nanny. So, you'd be an a Bad nanny, which is the name of the achievement.

But can this little joke of horrible baby murder being called something so mundane as just a bad nanny, be seen as is? No! Someone has to come along and tear it wide open and make a big fuss about it. Just live and let live.

"selfless work"? I beg to differ. Also, since when did a videogame company cared about what a nanny thought, actually while im in this point, since when did any company care about nannies. Silly nannies thinking they have political power.

Uhh, I actually agree with the nannys on this one. Murdering children is crossing the line for a game
So what? Neon Genesis Evangelion crossed the line when giving psychological disorders to the cast of characters, it doesnt change anything when someone complains, im surprised in fact that this country aint supporting this game since it has a HUGE hard on for religion.

Dante's Inferno caused controversy when it was released in the 1300s. It's nice to see that controversy continuing.

anyways, with a game like this, about Hell, something like this doesn't seem that bad. that's my two cents.

Accuser: "Blagh Blagh Blagh, this shows us in a bad light and will undoubtedly lead to violence in real life. Blagh Blagh Blagh."

I swear, they are making this way too easy.

Personally... I'm not a fan of killing babies cause I have kids of my own. But, if I don't like it, then I just won't buy the game.

Which brings me to the point... how many of these nanny's are actually likely to go out and say "Oh look, someone's decided to take one of the great literary works ever written and bastardize it into a video game, I think that's just the thing for me." More likely, this is just another publicity stunt.
Amen.

Um, nannies? You should be aware that there are better ways of getting noticed. Create a new child care management system, or something with a degree of innovation behind it, for Christ's sake.

Of course, if you have no imagination- and I'm guessing that many of you don't (don't get me wrong- I have met several childcare providers who are actually brilliant, but merely have little to no ambition)- you could always do something that will at least further your own ends *gasp*, such as going on strike.

Wow they need to reach around and pull the stick and three or four inches out of their asses. Hell make it five or six and we might even see a smile. If this wasn't involving nannies they wouldn't have looked twice.

Man, this news has 'em baby-shaking mad.
Don't make me hurt you.

On topic...HAHAHAHAHAAH oh man that article is funny. It's a game about Hell. I really couldn't care less if baby killing is in it. Maybe, just maybe, that's because I can tell the difference between a game and reality.
Hey, INA, remember: it's only a game; it's not real. Close your eyes if it helps.

Oh, yeah- the four year old took a shit in the cabinet and the dishwasher's on the fritz. Clean it up.

There are people who honestly believe what the above wrote is true and real, and base their lives on it. We let these people be in charge of things, important things, and let t go near our children. And we're okay with it.

Yet replace a few of those words with something like, I dunno, "monkeys" or "bannana cream pies", and we send'em to an insane asylum faster than you could say "Irony".

Why?
The 1st amendment. If we start sending people to jail for their beliefs, then we would be back in the dark ages. Also, half the internet would be gone.
So why does monkey-god person get sent to an asylum, but man-god person? They're both equally unbelievable and inane.

It's sad the insults that get thrown at these nannies just because they dislike a very small portion of a game and are speaking out against it. They don't want to ban the game, they aren't denouncing the violence, they're just understandedly miffed at the killing children part and on top of that having their profession mocked in the title. God-forbid they take advantage of freedom of speech. Seeing the amount of insults towards them on the first page is just a greater testiment that people feel that they can be absolute assholes when the cower behind a monitor.

And yes, I would say that to your face.

Towards the idotic achievement, I dislike it but not because of what it wants you to do but because it's gimmicky. It's as if the game already has a complex and is screaming for attention months before it's even released. That's a bad sign in my book.

I played games long ago on my computer that had wit, plot and depth that never had to resort to such stupid tactics. Yeah the graphics suck by today's standards but the game was so good that didn't matter; unlike today where the only thing a game has to offer are it's graphics and gimmicks.

I'm still concerned as to why we've delved so far back in time in the whole books-to-movies thing. Esspecially in the case of poems. I'd much rather watch Prose Edna and Canterbury than Divine Comedy

To be fair, at the time this book was written, this was all as close to fact as you got.

most strands of mordern christianity (to my limited knowledge) have gone against the beilief of purgatory, hence ea dont want complaints from them saying this game is the devil.

(note: not wanting to start a religous thread, just puting out a hypothes's(sp?) of why i believe ea has done this)
Yup, that makes sense, I'll take your word for it :)

...Does this mean that all unbaptized babies go to Hell now? I'm gonna need a priest...
Just a quick note - Catholics do believe in purgatory and Dante's Inferno was written by a Catholic. While most people only think of the hell portion of this work, there are two other sections, purgatory and heaven that rarely get noticed by the public now.

Unbapitized babies were thought to go into a place called limbo, which is neither heaven nor hell, and the could not leave. This view has been disgarded more or less by the modren Catholic church and it is thought that they go to heaven, although some still believe in limbo. The reason they went to limbo was because they still had origal sin yet had not done anything in their lives to condemn them to hell.

Just thought I'd clear that up :)

I actually love the fact that they love religion. And Ive known that they were going to cross the line with this game alot. Its just I dont enjoy killing women and babies in games. I prefer gangsters and undead nazis, because those are the image of evil. But kids?

Not all crazy cults go to the asylum. Just the ones with the Kool Aid.
Why are you so antagonistic against religion?

These nannies are doing the game more good than harm.

Angry organisations going 'Harumph' never seem to realise that they are giving the offending media excellent publicity.

It's funny how no one ever protests about the King Herod story in Christianity.

That's more horrific kid killing than in any game I can think of.

Also... they're late to the party, Dead Space already did the baby killing thing.

Quick! DISTRACT THEM WITH KNITTING!

How do nannies even come across this sort of information?
