It's so cliché and most characters are not interesting...

At least the manga keeps a little hint of "decent" in it.

EDIT: The thing I hate the most though is when they stop to explain how they managed to best the other one... The other guy just stands there looking all suprised and does nothing.

For me it's the characters. While ninjas are supposed to be quiet, sneaky and stealthy, Naruto's characters are loud, obnoxious and bombastic. Oh sure, there's some bad-assery to be had in some characters, but they all get killed off for the Naruto-on-Sasuke homoeroticism that nobody wants to see (except fangirls, which I am not).

It was the anime that got me into anime, actually.
I stopped watching after a while. It was too filler-riddled, and I just did not care to wade through all of it.
Plus, by that point I had seen many other, better anime. In comparison, it just seemed lame.

I still read the manga, though. If only because I've come too far to just drop it now.

I watched it a while into the Shippuuden series, but kinda found other things to watch. I don't hate it really. It's just that shonen anime doesn't get very deep. I could watch it again if I chose to, but that means making time to catch up to all that I missed.

American localization and marketing targets the 12 to 16 year old demographic with it. I'm a tad too old for it. I tried to watch it, it didn't do anything to immediately hook me in. I agree with Great JT's comments about the characters being unlikeable. For me, they definitely were. I can't be expected to watching something if the characters don't appeal to my particular tastes.

Thus is the opinion of an old-school Anime enthusiast. I recommend checking out some Anime of higher quality like The Heroic Legend of Arislan, Cyber City OEDO, Megazone 23, or the original Bubblegum Crisis OVA.

And if you need something more recent, check out Black Lagoon.

I wouldn't say I hate it, I've never even seen it. But it's not something I want to start watching.
I get the feeling that a show about a guy who can change into a girl would creep me out.

There is actually a reviewer on TGWTG that makes very valid arguments to why Naruto is bad. He says it better than I do, so you should check him out.

If you don't have the strength to see it, the premise is this: Naruto was good, then when the timeskip came it sucked really hard.

I don't really want to start a thread on this so hopefully I can get away with veering this thread ever so slightly off track for one answer to this question, 'cos I have always wanted to know.

Whats the difference between manga, anime and cartoons? To me it's all the same. I wish to be enlightened.

It's quite simple...

Manga is the written form, graphic novels and comic books for eg. Only Japanese comics are referred to as manga.

Anime is the audio-visual form, as in the animated TV show. Again, only Japanese animation is referred to as anime.

Cartoons are just the western equivalent of anime. It is usually an animated tv show but it can sometimes also refer to a written form.

OT: I know a lot of people hate Naruto because of it's atrocious English dubs. Whenever you hear them you feel your brain cells dying with every syllabal...

Also, it gets put on cartoon network and jetix etc and is worshipped by ten year olds who wouldn't know what proper anime was if it turned around and forced it's way up their bebops...

Most people don't like popular manga's, like Naruto or Dragonball. I think it's because they're not hardcore enough, and anyone that likes them isn't a true manga fan. My opinion is that anyone can watch and like whatever they want.

I can't remember what it was that turned my partner off it. He was watching an episode for roughly 15 mins, then something happened and he turned it off. He grew up watching Dragonball on a morning kids show and watches Bleach, but Naruto just didn't peak his interests.

Any show that keeps says "This move will kill him if he does it again" and then shows the person doing said move two or three times after they should have died pretty much falls into the same category as Dragonball Z and will most likely contain single fights that can last several episodes. Series like that I cannot respect and I believe should have their funding diverted to other, more promising projects.

But than again the people who recieve royalties from Naruto must be as rich as the Pope at this point, and what's their motivation to give up on their cash cow. It would be like Nintendo giving up on Mario or Link.

I also believe it should have been used as a method of torture at Guantanamo Bay.

I watched Naruto in HS(back when it was first coming out in Japan) and through most of giant filler. The filler killed it for me and I never looked back. I remember the exact episode that made me take off my metal headband and say "fuck this show" it was the filler where the super awesome ninjas suddenly got beat up by a cowboy with a sword who wasn't even a ninja.

It made Ninjas stupid.

I generally dislike any series that doesn't have a mind to end. They are just there to milk the dollars, the plot falls apart, and most episodes are stretched out or contain nothing but filler. This is not a problem unique to Naruto. Inuyasha, Dragon Ball, basically any series that goes over the 100 episode mark devolves into this crap.

Extremely well known phenomenon known as "it's popular so it sucks". Where people feel the need to distinguish themselves from the herd by hating stuff that everyone else likes (legitimately or not). A place here, where everyone is very self-conscious about their image and want to seem "critical and smart" there is an even stronger emphasis to criticize.

Apparently, ANYTHING popular is cliche'd.

Thank You.

The emo plot and storyline on most characters

-I never had parents and was rejected

-My brother killed my family

etc etc etc
