I recently played the Naruto Shippoden 2 game for the PS3, and I found the story to be very involved while the game had some really good fast paced action. The story was nicely paced and it really did tell a tale that I am likely to remember.

I decided to watch the Anime from the very beginning, and although I am into it, it is incredibly redundant. It gets to the point where they literally replay the last 5-8 minutes of the previous episode before they start rolling out some new content, and even then it feels like it has to repeat itself seven more times.

I'm about 20 episodes into the series, but I had to stop because I am only on this planet for so long. I'm still curious as to how the show progresses though, so I it even worth finishing the saga? Does the pacing improve? Or should I just pick up another series and be done with the whisker-faced boy?

I dropped off around episode 140, when
Gaara started fighting Kimimaru
If you're around episode 20, the two seasons immediately following are pretty slick. After the big climactic finale, the show goes into filler for a season or so. Personally, I thought the part you're watching now was one of the best parts of the show. That and the season following it.

If you want to get right to the meat of it, try out the Naruto: Rise of a Ninja game for Xbox 360. Covers everything up to around ep 80 or so, iirc. Pretty fun game to boot.

Hmmm, hard to say, as I too gave up on the series (I just kind of stopped caring), although that was much later on. Admittedly, you're about to get into the Chunin exam arc, which is one of the better arcs in the series (though it is quite long) and has some particularly good fights, so it might be worth it to give that a try. If you still find yourself not caring, then its just not worth it to keep going, as there are a lot of episodes and the series still has a few years ahead of it, at least. There are better, and shorter, animes out there.

Edit: Oh yeah, and they do mostly stop that "replaying the last 5 minutes of the previous episode" thing, though it never entirely goes away.

Yes, it improves.
Skip fillers, watch original up until Naruto fights Sasuke at the waterfall place Valley of End.
Start Shippuden, skip fillers.

Should, at the least, take you two weeks to get fully caught up, at your rate. Not hard. I think it's worth it.

EDIT: That is, if it keeps your interest.
If you are hating it by the end of the Chunin Exams, I wouldn't go further.

More than half of both the Bleach and Naruto animes have been filler. The studio hasn't taken longer than a 2 week break for the entire run thus far and they catch up to the manga every 10 weeks minimum. Hell every ep past the Sasuke fight at the Valley of the End in Naruto until the start of shippuuden was filler, over a year straight.

The anime right now I hope is going to stretch out the war prep so we don't have a Bleach scenario where they stop in the middle of a fight for weeks of BS.

I prefer the slower eps where nothing happens to the horribly written shit that fills time for the manga. I wish they would just change to a bi-weekly schedule or do 24 episode seasons.

I'd go a step further and say that all of them need ending (my opinion only). I've invariably gotten bored with all the long running ones (never got into Bleach or One Piece, and Naruto pissed me off pretty much as soon as Shippuden started, and the manga wasn't that much better, I know there are others, but these three are the main centres of fandom). All of my favourite series have fewer than three seasons... some are only 11 episodes, which is weirdly arbitrary for an anime length.

Honestly Gants and Berserk are fantastic I just wish they came out fast rather than just ending them where they are and One Piece is fantastic but you have to keep in mind how old it is so they early eps were alot more simplistic because the audiance was younger but the more it goes the more mature it gets since there audiance is growing up. But in short yes bleach and nauto need to end and same goes for most other long running series. I was pissed because bleach finally had a place to end but they basically said fuck that shit n kept it going n I face palmed. The only reason I ever check in on it or naruto is cause I am waiting for OP to be put up n I am to impatient.

What becomes apparent is that there never seems to be anything substantial going on in the longer running series, because a 5 episode run where the main characters are saving a damsel in distress is just annoying filler, especially since there are some good, tightly nit animes out there like Eden of the East or Afro Samurai.

I can't decide if the reason stems from greed or vanity. If its the former, then the producers are just trying to get a hold of your attention. If it's the latter, then the lead artists and designers believe there can be infinite stories told in the universe they create. While this can be true, it does not mean it should be the case. Most of the time there is no real message that hasn't been said a thousand times before or the events don't reveal anything about the characters or the plot.

I'm a big fan of the PS3 shippuden game, so I think I might just do that.

Haven't watched Naruto since the filler debacle, and after looking at some plot spoilers on TvTropes, I don't intend to go back anytime soon.

Seriously, why did they replace Orochimaru with Madara Uchiha for the role of the main villain? Orochimaru was much more interesting.

Such as? :)

OT: I've only read the manga erratically and never really got into it. The anime is painful. As my sister described it: "It's one of those series where the supporting cast and the setting is awesome but the protagonist is incredibly annoying."[footnote]See "Sailor Moon". XD[/footnote]

I'll reserve my personal judgement on the series for the day I actually go to the library and pick up a couple volumes.

yeah it's no longer any good.
I stopped reading last year when
sasuke was coming to kill everyone he grew up with for no reason and Bumblebees' friends came to help the leaf village. They asked naruto for help and he couldn't because he luvs him so much! But he felt sorry that he was going to let everyone die so he started punching himself in the face to make the others feel better.

Eyeshield 21 (need to finish it)

Yu Yu Hakusho (need to finish it)

I guess DBZ cuz I liked a couple of the arcs.

Negima the manga(although its starting to like get a bit too long cuz they keep dragging the magical world arc)

The world god only knows(just got into some chapters and liked it and the manga doesnt seem to have an end yet)

Sekirei (I guess this counts cuz the manga is way further than the anime and I see the anime getting up to 4 seasons)

Fairy tail(liking the anime and doesnt seem to have an ending so I will keep watching it once more dub episodes come in)

Rosario Vampire (yeah Im loving the manga thats all I gotta say)

And yes your sister is correct but that really goes for a lot of animes and mangas; they keep making the supporting cast much more interesting than the main person.

Probably because 3/4 of any long runner is filler. That and the fact that episodes are actually only 10 minutes long. You got the opening, 8 minutes of review from the previous episode, 10 minutes of new episode, 2 minutes of ending.

I am curious which long running animes you liked?

I only ever actually watched like five or six episodes of the thing.
