I've had two.

For the first one, I was about eight. When I ran, I ran bent over, head thrust out in front of me. Me and all the other kids at school would frequently cut throught the trees rather than taking the footpath. That meant appearing several metres away from the zebra crossing, where the cars could see you. I ran out, head first, into the traffic, whilst one of the teachers was speeding by. He tried to stop, but he was moving too fast. Somehow, I managed to get out of the way, but not in time to stop his wing mirror from clipping my face. I went spinning to the other side of the road, and blacked out for about two minutes. When I came too, he was freaking out. Not about the fact that he'd hit me, of course, he was worried he'd get sued. He refused to let me leave until I promised I wouldn't sue. I then proceeded to walk home(the school was across the road from my cul-de-sac).

The second isn't such a long winded and badly told story, but I'll manage a way to make it so. I got Cryptos Sporidium when I was about ten, and spent about a month throwing up and feeling like shit. The worst part is, the effects didn't hit me until I was on a camping trip half way across the country with the family. Trust me, being hit with unimaginable thirst whilst in a field, miles away from the nearest water source, makes you feel like you're stranded on an island. The rest of the family was surviving off of coke and lemonade, anything other than water made me want to throw up. My mother cooking sausages in the morning was murder. Also, having explosive diarrhea and throwing up every couple of minutes is made ten times worse when there's no toilet for miles.

There we go. I didn't even know the second one was a near death experiance until about a year back. I could sue the landlord and landlady of the house we lived in, since I got the Cryptos Sporidium because they didn't dig the well deep enough, but I'm against sueing unless it's to prove a point or bring attention to a situation.

Some smart lad nearly mowed me down with their motorbike once. Must have been going 80km/h or so (on a back street no less).

Blood loss from a horrible nosebleed. Sitting in a restaurant, suddenly my nose starts to bleed like a damn fountain. Ended up with a plate full of blood and a trip to the hospital for a couple of days.

Worst accident I've ever had was Scuba Diving and my bcd's dump valve failed outright. I rapidly sank in about 80feet of water, then did an uncontrolled ascent back up again the moment I unclipped my ballast, giving myself the Bends in the process.
The sensation of your blood boiling inside your skin is no fun, no fun at all. Queue several weeks in hospital.

I've been succumbed to being a paraplegic 3 times so far in my life and that's one of the scariest things I've ever had happen to me.

It's like a gang-rape of my ears with spiked 12-inch penises.
That's what the comment by the video poster on youtube says, I agree. That was terrible in unimaginable ways. It was so bad it gave me cancer.

When I was 7 years old (I think, It was a long time ago) at a swimming pool, I couldn't swim at the time and managed to jump right into the deep end without my parents nearby, Ironically just deep enough so I could reach the ground and jump just far enough to get my head above water level, regardless all I could do was hopelessly attempt to reach the edge or shout for help (which due to lack of oxygen I couldn't).

Thankfully a lifeguard saved me; when I was out, I was coughing up water for around two minutes.

I fell off a 3 story building.
Really?
Yup. I was on top of my buddies roof on the fourth of july around 2004. I slipped, rolled off the side of the roof and landed flat on my face.

In some bizarre twist of fate, I broke NOTHING. I was sore for the rest of the month though.

And the band video someone posted earlier nearly killed me.

I was shot once, but it wasn't technically near death I guess, since it was in the kneecap. Which apparently is the second most painful place you can get shot (According to this thing I was reading). I don't know if that's true or not, but it hurt like a *****.

In more related news, I almost drowned once. There's this place called Irie Beach in Jamaica (I don't know why it's called that, it's a river, not a beach) and there's this spot about ten feet above the water where you can grab a rope tied to a really tall tree, swing out, and drop into the water.

My friends and I were climbing up the rope before we dropped so we could fall further, and when it was my turn I climbed up near the top (About fourty feet off the water at this point) and let go. As I was falling the rope somehow got wrapped around my foot and I ended up suspended with my head underwater for a few minutes before someone got to me and untangled the rope. Damn near passed out.

When my family's house was being built, my dad would sometimes take me to the construction site. I used to wander around the construction site, climbing and jumping over the piles of earth and rocks. The second time my dad took me there, I almost died.

When I was 4, I almost drowned in mud. Yes, mud. I got stuck in what I thought was just a little puddle of mud, and before I knew it, the mud had already swallowed up my legs up to my knees. I started clawing at rocks, but I couldn't get a good grip. I always carried a plastic sword with me back then, so I tried to hook the hand guard on a tree trunk and pull myself out. However, being 4 years old, I lacked the strength to do it. The mud wasn't firm enough to hold me up when I stepped on it, but it was thick enough to keep me from getting out.

At about when the mud was up to my stomach, I realized I was going to die. I started shouting for my dad, who I knew was nearby. After two minutes of shouting, I started screaming. I was at the bottom of a hill, and I knew that my dad was on the other side of this hill when I left him to run off on my own. After a few more minutes, my dad came over the top of the hill, saw me, and sprinted to the bottom. The mud was up to my armpits at this point. He then grabbed my arms, and pulled me out.

Niether of us was very talkative afterwards for obvious reasons.

We've lived here for almost 15 years now. In our second year here, a sinkhole formed in our backyard, right about where I'd sunk.

I fell off a cliff while riding a bike at about 40mph and landed on my head.

I was in a car crash on a roundabout near where I live. None of the cars were written off and everybody was OK but just the whole impact of the crash had that "near death experience" feel.

I called an old girl friend a slag (well she is!). That was more scary than the previous two put together.

I developed Acute Ulcerative Colitis a week or so before starting university. So, armed with my foam enemas and the assurance the excruciating pain and anal bleeding would stop, off I went. By December I'd dropped down to just over 7 stone (around 100lbs - I'm over 6 feet tall) and was mostly delirious in hospital when they finally operated, helpfully informing my parents I would have been dead within a week. Sounds dramatic, but from my point of view just extremely boring and horrifically painful in a detached sort of way. What a waste of near-death potential excitement it was.

There was a plus side: I realised pretty soon the medication wasn't going to work, so I skipped every class and used all my remaining energy to go out clubbing as often as possible. Which was quite often. It was so the right thing to do, but I've got no idea what I'd have done if I'd suddenly got healthy again and had to finish the year normally...well, I guess I'd have failed.

when I was like 4 or younger I was flowing in a pond in one of those circular flotation devices with my body in the middle and arms on the side when I just let go and drop through. Not sure why I let go but I was sinking like crazy. I wasn't scared which was odd but I just remember that it was dark all around me and all I saw was the watery light at the top and saw a dark mass move over head. My mom says she saved me and I guess she was the mass I saw but I don't remember anything after falling in to the water.

It was odd how my survival instincts just decided to take a day off

Anyone ever wake up with there face in the pillow? Well when I woke up I couldn't breath cuz my face was in the pillow. The sad thing was I accepted dieing because I was to tired to do anything about it or thing of a solution and I though i was facing up and just had difficultly breathing. I lived, because my arm just decided to push and I landed face up thankful for air. kind of cool how it just did that without me thinking it.

Aside from the time I almost drowned because I misjudged how much harder it would be to swim fully clothed, in a strong current no less, I don't have a great deal of experience with near-death.
