Hi.
I'm bored at my house. I need either a pc or xbox game to fill the time, preferably both. I've run out of games I havn't played, and have no inspiration as to what to spend my money on.

I like RPGS and Strategy games, RTS more than turn based but both can work. For a flavour of what I like, the final fantasy games up until 10, Starcraft and Warcraft, the various Total War games, Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic.

I'm looking for something with a decent story that drags you in, the kind of game you want to keep playing to see what happens in the next chapter, albeit preferably with good gameplay as well.

While writing this it's occurred to me that there are three MMO suggestions based on my likes, but they aren't for me. I played WoW for a long time and eventually got bored. Same with Old republic.

I'm also not a fan of FPS, although Third Person when done right can be fine. CoD however, is not an option.

Any recommendations?
Thanks

This doesn't really fall under the category you want but if you don't mind hack n slash then maybe darksiders, as I enjoyed the storyline.
Fable: the lost chapters is also a quality game, but it's pretty old now.

As for RTS' you could try dawn of war or company of heroes if you haven't already.

You will get a lot better options from other people to be honest, as I've suddenly forgotten almost every single rpg ever haha.

Lets see... I quite liked Risen. I know lots will disagree with me on that, but I enjoyed it. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines is really good too. If you haven't played Neverwinter Nights 2 or the Mask of the Betrayer expansion yet, definitely do. EYE: Divine Cybermancy is really weird, but great too. Same with the STALKER games (thought not so much on the weird). Have been told that Gothic 1-3 are good, but I haven't played enough to comment. Play Deus Ex: HR and Dishonored too, if you haven't yet. The new XCOM is really good to, give that one a look see. That is pretty much all that comes to mind atm. :p

Command & Conquer? They're all good.

Or perhaps my old mainstay of Earthbound. Just emulate the *****. I own a copy, so I'm digitally lending it to you. It's good though. In fact, I'll go play it right now :D

i pretty much agree with you apart from EYE. its an interesting idea but the lore in it is just about impossible to understand. seems to rip off at least a half a dozen sources from warhammer 40k and shadowrun
I never payed attention to the lore that much, tbh (especially since most of it was pretty poorly translated). What really drew me in was the fantastic visual aesthetic and the super-complicated gameplay. :p

STALKER games are great, even better if you mod them. If you're looking for a really good strategy game, Men of War: Assault Squad is quite fun, and so is Wargame: European Escalation. If neither of those look interesting, you could also fall back on Star Wars: Empire at War, which is amazing on it's own and outstanding with certain mods.

If you're not adverse to some grade-A gaming crack cocaine from yesteryear check out GoodOldGames (gog.com, I think?). Something like Heroes of Might and Magic 2 will absolutely obliterate your free time. Plenty of other hidden gems there too.
