Hey guys, I'm at my wit's end here. I'm trying to get my PS4/3 connected to the internet and I don't know what to do.
I recently moved and my source for internet is Wifi. There is NO chance of me using ethernet to the modem/router, I have to go Wifi. My laptop, which runs Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon x64, can get a decent signal.
However, none of my other machines can. So I decided to use my laptop as a bridge. I can run a standard CAT5E ethernet cable to an 8-port unmanaged Netgear switch (GS108 model) and my desktop PC gets internet that way. I was able to download World of Warcraft no problem.
However, the same cannot be said for my Sony consoles. No matter what I do, I can't do the same.
I have tried the following
1) Connect both consoles to Netgear switch
2) Connect consoles to laptop using regular ethernet cable
3) Connect consoles to laptop using crossover ethernet cable.
I'm not sure if I have to manually set up the settings PS4 side when I try the crossover cable. When I do that, it defaults to highlighting the "Manual" option instead of "Automatic" when it asks for IP settings, but I don't know what to put in there. If I go full automatic for every option PS4 side, it fails at the Obtain IP address stage.
