Hiya, looking for some new music. If you can give some suggestions, I'd be grateful.

Post whatever that you consider to be a hidden gem (song/album/artist) of sort. Genre doesn't matter. If it's something "different", fresh, or just plain great music, bring it on.

Thanks in advance. I have a hard time finding new music as all the people around me listen to music I already know. Your help is appreciated.

Josh Rouse - Winter in the Hamptons
Lighthouse Family - Free
Nneka - Heartbeat

Sutherland Brothers and Quiver - Dark Ship
Teenage Fanclub - When I Still Have Thee
The 1930's - Flesh and Bones
Mayflies USA - The Stepford Wives, You and Me

Any/all of that! =)

I know I talk about these guys in every music-related thread, but they deserve it. If you're into punk rock at all, check em out.

I have really been into this band recently, All of their members come from different genres of music ranging from jazz to metal. It is a metal band though so you have been warned :p

Ayreon (A progressive-rock/metal kind of band. Individual singers represent different characters and their albums each have an overarching story. Many of their albums also connect to one another in some way)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_z4LTWvpOY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsA7sowKO5E

Star One (A side-project of the man behind Ayreon. Star One makes songs based on famous sci-fi movies and television shows. Everything from Star Wars, to Dune, to 2001 and more)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVInYWs8ZU8

Iron Savior (A power-metal band out of Germany. Their albums tell the story of the Iron Savior, a powerful space battle-station created by the ancient civilization of Atlantis. Not quite as well-told a story as Ayreon, but I think the music and imagery is great)

Sci-fi metal space-operas? Oh hell yes. Good metal never died, it just up and moved to Europe.

I was going to recommend Parov Stelar but it's already been recommended. So...

Eh, who cares Parov Stelar definitely needs more love. At first his music sounded too strange to me but it grew on me, quickly.

If you're more into more traditional stuff, try Whitest Boy Alive. They've also grown on me.

Try yourself some Pink Floyd! A progressive rock band from the '60's into the '80's, their albums Dark Side of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall are some of the greatest albums ever. Just make sure you listen to them in full, start to finish. If your willing to get a little deeper into prog, you can also try The Alan Parsons Project; their albums I Robot and Pyramid are great pop/prog rock.

Feel like you need some electronic music? Always listen to Daft Punk. They are the only truly great band group... thing in that genre.

Feel like getting some metal on? Metallica, or any of the great power metal bands, are your destination.

Your pop side screaming to get out? Don't listen to modern pop artists, HELL NO! you gotta listen to a few songs from the New Wave artists of the '80's. No, not New Age, HELL NO! New Wave.

If you want to warp your mind, psycadelic artists like Jimi Hendrix or Jefferson Airplane are neat.

And if you want dance music, and/or are just feeling crazy, try disco. No. Seriously. The only reason people hate disco, and by extension the '70's and '80's, was the bad clothing. They had no fashion sense back then. Otherwise, it was friggin' awesome back then.

I've been getting into the agonist lately. Other than that I can't say I've really been getting into "new" music, there's so much awesome from the 90s that is new to me that it seems unnecessary to wade through modern crap to find the hidden gems. In a few years when it's all been discovered and recommended I'll get onto it!

I'm big on anything that has a beat or rhythm, specifically anything of the Industrial genre.

Rob Zombie is considered industrial by definition.

I would link Nine Inch Nails, but everyone seems to know who Trent Rezner is.
