I was just wondering what you people thought to help me clarify my own. I keep waiting for a really strong RPG to come out on the 360 ("Mass Effect" was good but didn't excite me too much and I am still slogging away with "Shivering Isles"). Is "Lost Odyssey" going to come across like a "Final Fantasy" clone? All sound and fury signifying nothing? Mindless grinding towards an ending that fails to satisfy? J-RPG melodrama and guys in gauzy shirts? Cut scenes that take hours to sit through?

I know I may seem down on the game without playing it but with a new game being a serious monetary setback I have to be cautious. The reviews that are out on metacritic are good, solid reviews but nothing that makes me sit up and take attention.

Well I have the game pre-purchased and also have the strategy guide sitting on my desk at home. I would say based on what I saw in the guide, coupled with the numerous reviews that are out there, that this may be a pass for you. You seem to answer your own questions when asking about grinding, a Final Fantasy clone and J-RPG emo boys and gauzy shirts. By which I mean yes Lost Odyssey looks to promise all of those things.

Sounds like you may want to stick with the more western rpgs as the things you mentioned are trademarks of JRPGs.

True but I've been pretty impressed by tactical JRPGs. There are also a good number of solid "old school" RPGs for the DS.

You are correct though I suppose I did answer my own questions. I guess I'm still hoping for something new and thrilling in the RPG genre on the 360.
