My character in Dark Souls 2 is a Faith/Strength build.

My Stats right now are
VGR-10
END-18
VIT-14
ATN-31
STR-39
DEX-6
ADP-4
INT-4
FTH-42

I have a Lightning Mace +8, and I don't know whether or not I should infuse it with Lightning. The lightning damage is nice but it also has a B in Strength so I'm not sure.

Give or take a few points, Your stats are balance enough to use every big items in the game...

However, you're 8 points till the dex basically stops scaling. So I would recommend a dex weapon.

If I had to play the same character, I would personally use the Bauldar swag sword/Uchigatana/Painted Guardian blade, probably because I haven't tried it yet.

You can also pick up Greatsword of Artorias, but that would require both int and faith to be at about 20. (and probably much higher if you want it to scale) Damn cool weapon though, probably gonna be my weapon next time I play DS.

I'm kind of attached to my Claymore, it looks and feels good to use. Makes me feel like a badass knight.

If you're going quality (40 for strength, 40 for dex) you'll rack up quite a nice amount of damage with it. It's also one of the best greatswords in the game, so you made a good choice :)

Well generally you go either Dexterity or strength, while only raising the other high enough to wield your chosen weapon. You're already at 32 with dex and most don't bother past 40 (50 at max) because the scaling isn't worth it anymore so you should probably use a dex weapon. I have seen people use 40/40 and I think claymore scales with both but I've not tried it. With stats like that you should be able to play with and try out most weapons to find what you like.

Any recommendations on upgrading it? It's +10 but is there anything I can do with it?

Your stats are fairly balanced. You're doing fine in that department. I never used a claymore as they swing too slow for my liking when I started out, but once I got the Moonlight Blade, I started using that and it's the same style of play.

Since you like the Claymore, you may want to try and grab the Black Knight Sword. It's the same style as the Claymore, but I think it hits a bit harder. To get one, return to the Undead Asylum (where the game starts) and wander around. If you're lucky, one of the two Black Knights there will drop it for you.

Crystal is pretty nice though, I'll keep it at +4... (BE ready to farm alot after you use up all the dur though)

Other than that +15 is the best upgrade if you want your stats to take it's full effect.

The humble long sword is also very nice in DS1 (same scaling as claymore IIFC), mostly due to it's versatile move-set and easy to use.

Going from memory (and Demon's since I never used one in Dark 1/2) but a Flamberge might be an option for you. Nice sweeping move set and Dex scalingon top.

Claymore is okay, but the main benefit of STR weapons is stunning enemies. I would recommend using the Great Club or Zweihander. These two weapons have much larger reach than the Claymore, and can stun most enemies in the game.

However, some boss fights are harder with STR weapons, as they usually swing slowly. Four Kings for example, you may want to use a DEX weapon.

Just a note, you've put stats into STR and DEX, which isn't recommended but isn't exactly bad. You're free to use most weapons in the game, which is more fun, but you aren't as powerful as you could be. If you had focused on STR and INT, or DEX and INT, instead of STR and DEX, you could buff your weapons with crystal magic weapon for a big damage boost, however this isn't necessary in New Game. You can get by just fine without spell buffs. If you find your damage lacking, maybe buy some charcoal resin or farm some pine resin.

Good luck, have fun and remember to block and dodge.

I went there and killed the Stray Demon and Black Knights, no sword :(

unlucky, mate. I have to say that I never cared for the b.knight sword as the power moves take to long to start so you're probably best sticking with the claymore.

If you're going to Sen's, use the Zweihander. I don't recommend this weapon anywhere else, but the one-handed Heavy attack can permastun the lizards. You floor them, wait a moment, and floor them again.

Claymore is my favourite weapon too; beautiful, versatile sword. =) That one will work well for virtually every other area. =) But the Zweihander 1h heavy is just so so damn powerful against Humanoid enemies.

Stats are good though! Build a bit more into Strength if you want to keep your Claymore optimal, and focus a tad more on Vitality I think; since I believe your armour set doesn't have great magic resist, that's likely to mess you up in some coming areas.

Hope this helps =) Ask if you'd like more tips! This is a helpful forum indeed. =)

Id say dont worry an incredible amount about your stats. They help sure but the main thing that will get you through the game is your ability. At the level of Strength and Dexterity you are at now you should be fine to beat the rest of the game with. I'd recommend if you really want to keep levelling up to dump points into Endurance (so you can dodge, and block more) and Health to tank a few more hits.

The Claymore is a fine weapon to use in the game, really nice horizontal swing on the R1 attack, and the R2 attack does a really nice thrust attack that deals piercing damage, making it good for enemies that have high resistance to regular damage. The Elite Knight set is also a very good medium armor set to use, I think it gives the best protection to weight ratio in the medium armor class.

Once you beat Sen's Fortress, I'd strongly recommend finding the Very large Ember (You will need to drain the New Londo Ruins to get to it) and upgrade your Claymore to +15. Then maybe bump strength up to say 30 for some extra scaling damage and you should be good to go for the rest of the game.

Id say stick with the Claymore if its move set is what your comfortable with, knowing the range and speed of your attacks is vital in Dark Souls. You can make your Claymore enchanted with Lightning, Fire, Chaos, Divine, Occult, or Magic but I wouldnt recommend it.

Lightning, Fire and Chaos remove all stat scaling on a weapon, so it would remove all the damage bonuses you're getting from your Strength and Dex. Theyre good upgrade trees, but are meant more for people who are going to be going through the game with lower stats. If you're planning to bump up your strength more in the future then a +15 Claymore is your best bet. Divine, Occult and Magic all scale with Faith or Intelligence and reduce any bonus you get from Strength or Dexterity, so once again, not very useful. Theres also the Crystal upgrade tree but that will make your weapon have like 15 durability points and you wont be able to repair it... So yeah not super recommended.

That being said, there is an area in the game where I would highly recommend you find a backup weapon and enchant it with Divine just to make your life so much easier.

Four Kings isnt that bad with slow weapons, dodge right when they swing then just two hand your Claymore/Zweihander/BFG etc and just go to town while they recover, you can kill one King in maybe about 5 or 6 hits, which isnt too hard to do. Use some Gold Pine Resin if you want them to go down in three. Plus you can just keep hitting a King during its death animation and that damage will be taken away from the overall boss healthbar.

Greatsword of Artorias doesnt get as much Strength and Dex Scaling though, you need to invest 4 stats to make it as powerful. Though that is my plan for a New Game+ maybe because I just want to be Artorias dammit
