One thing I've noticed about the XBOX, is that they don't have very many true RPGs, like the old Chrono-Trigger. I played Sacred 2, which was okay for a while, but then it just became to repetitive. I also have played Fable, Fable 2, and Fable 3 (which I thought sucked).

Anyone have any suggestions for a really good XBOX RPG? Especially something in line with the old school variety. Thanks.

You're using Sacred 2 and the Fable series as your benchmark for a Xbox RPG?! *mock surprise* Come here, there's much you've missed... *leads you to the Bioware and Bethesda booths*

Seriously, though, give Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins, and Mass Effect a try and call me in the morning (perhaps Oblivion too).

What about Lost Odyssey? I heard it's pretty good and it's by the creator of Final Fantasy.

xbox doesnt have rpgs? well thats just not true. sure they're not like chrono trigger, but in this day and age, what is?

i wound NOT suggest dragon age origins, because i feel like its not as good as everyone seems to think. New Vegas is also far too buggy (stay away from obsideon in general). however everything else said above is a must have for xbox RPG fans. also Bethesda is coming out with the new Elder Scrolls 5 soon, so you might consider waiting for that.

Fallout
Elder Scrolls
Mass Effect
and as I heard, the first dragon age is pretty good
^there, four epic RPG games for the Xbox
(However, be prepared for glitches in fallout and elder scrolls, especially if you get NV)

I suppose I should have elaborated. Sorry. I have played all the Elder Scrolls series, and all the Fallouts, Borderlands, and even ME2, and both BioShocks. All of which seem to be of the "first person variety" or in the case of ME2, third person. More of these would be nice too, but I havent had any luck.

I was speaking more of the "top down" third person type RPGs.

Heck, I don't even know what I mean. Sorry.

I'll list the RPG's i have

Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age Origins
Dragon Age 2
TES4: Oblivion
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
TES3: Morrowind
Bioshock 1 + 2 is a good FPS RPG
Mass Effect 3 is coming
TES5: Skyrim is coming
Dues Ex 3 will be a good mixish of FPS and RPG

while most of these use the FPS perspective there are very very good

i think the best thing for you, given your specifications, is to get steam and buy
Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, they are very RPG and not FPS in any way, they use point and click turn based isometric gameplay

Kotor, Mass Effect, Dragon Age (And Dragon Age: Awakening) Dragon Age 2, Fallout 3 (Not New Vegas, don't bother) Also the Fable series is meant to be quite good.

Also Red Faction: Guerilla

This.

Lost Odyssey is a great JRPG. The Blue Dragon game was good too, but a little too 'kidish' for me.
Throw in Infinite Undiscovery and you have 9 discs of awesome. :p

Tales of Vespaeria is out on the Games on Demand, and is a brilliant title.

I have not been a fan of the Final Fantasy series since (dating myself here) Nintendo Gameboy. But I have seriously considered trying them out.

You mean there IS someone else who actually likes that game?? *high five*

That's a great recomendation! I would also add the ATLUS redux of Divinity II the Dragon Knight Saga to that as it's two top down RPGs in one. If Lost Odyssey and Infinite Undiscovery are to your liking I would also add Star Ocean the Last Hope and Enchanted Arms to the list....OH! I would be remiss if I didn't mention my current favorite (lives in my XBOX atm) game mainly because SO many people told me it was utter garbage and in my opinion it's just great and that's Final Fantasy XIII. Hope that gives ya' some ideas, have fun stormin' the castle(s)!

I'd say these ones *require* a PC to use, not because it's inherently better, not because the controls are a little better (Subjective<--), but because if you encounter a serious bug in any of bethesda's games, the Dev. Console allows you to circumvent it in some clever way. Oh, and user-made mods are fun to play with (titties!)

Ugh, I tried to play that game. It's collecting dust unfinished somewhere. I'd suggest giving Blue Dragon a try if you want something that isn't as mainstream (a la Fallout/Dragon Age/Mass Effect).
