Nekopara OVA kickstarter closes with 963% of goal

So the Nekopara OVA kickstarter is now closed, with just over 963,000$, or 963% of its original 100,000$ goal, making it both in absolute terms and proportional terms the most successful kickstarter relating to animation ever made, as well as being the most successful of Sekai Project's 13 kickstarters again in both terms.

This means we're getting a full hour of cat girl glory in the OVA, additional subtle language options will be added, and a mini visual novel will be made to accompany the game. Unfortunately despite a sudden surge at the end the kickstater did not manage to reach the million final stretch goal, meaning that for now no aditional OVA for the aformentioned mini visual novel will be made as part of the project, though the clear demand makes its creation at some point in the future likely.

We did it guys, we got a cat girl anime OVA funded. What a time to be alive.

Ecchii can be from light fanservice to more intense fanservice but almost never any actual sex is included. The vn itself of course is an adult VN so there exist some love scenes (like in live action film) but it isn't just about them at the same time.


Notice, the fans funded this with the knowledge that it wouldn't have sex scenes like the VN. Clearly, it isn't that just those scenes have value. Clearly, there's other good stuff in there too.

On the one hand I'm not terribly surprised it hit its goals. A little, maybe, but as they say, 'sex sells'. On the other hand...$963,000??? Really? I could imagine it meeting or exceeding its goals, but the margin by which they beat it almost strains credulity. And those donor tiers...holy hell. Who even makes donor tiers in the thousands for a project like this? More to the point...those tiers actually had takers? Hell, there were more people in the $100 tier than in the $15 tier.

...I swear, the more I look, the more confused I get.

I'm not sure why Nekopara got so popular. I would say it was one of the first nudie games from the erotic VN catagory to be on Steam at the time, but it actually wasn't because I remember you had to own the version direct from the website for that. Which, I don't care what people think, I bought it. It was alright. Nothing you couldn't already get for free though.

I think it was sort of the "tech" behind it? Because the 2D characters actually moved a bit, which was pretty neat for a Visual Novel.
