I'm having a bit of a problem with my internet connection for awhile now, and it's been slowly eating away at me for months. So I finally decided to just log my Networking woes on the internet and see if anyone out there is smart enough to help me. So here we go...

I've never had a fantastic internet connection, I'll tell you that right now. Maybe a year ago, my internet would disconnect for no reason whatsoever, which was mildy annoying to say the least. This was rare though. But it's gotten to the point that it is so terrible I can't even play Xbox Live for more than a few minutes or surf the web reliably anymore. A few months ago, my internet connection started having problems with connectivity and would cause major lag spikes frequently (this is still the case today). At first, I thought I was a problem with the router (I forget the brand, I'll edit if I remember) so I begged my dad (I'm 15) to get a new router. We did, (a Vizio router) but there was no change in connectivity.

Here are some details that might help in diagnosing the problem:
-I live in the Coopersburg, PA area
-My internet provider is RCN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCN_Corporation)
-As previously mentioned, my router is by Vizio
-My modem was supplied by RCN
-My network is password protected and secure
-There does not seem to be any connectivity problems across LAN, only on the internet
-Network connectivity issues is present no matter what game I try to play online with, or if I use my laptop, the office computer or Xbox 360

I'd really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions on how my internet connection can be fixed. I am happy to supply further details if needed.

Well it looks to me like you're asking for the price of printers in a bakery. How about checking out a tech forum?

Also, you don't have to be over 18 to call customer support. Call your provider and give out yards to them - if a contract says your Internet should work, it should work, damn it.

Its time to change ISPs
Well, RCN provides my internet, cable, AND phone for what I'm assuming is a relatively low price. Besides, changing my current ISP to something else won't go over so well with my parents... >_>

If you find a bill, and see how much you're being charged, search (the net) for a cheaper alternative.
I have NO idea about US phone companies, but I know there are a good few, so shop around, and if you find one for the same/cheaper/slightly more expensive price, bring it up with your folks. Mention poor Internet speeds, talk about Facebook not working (most parents get that), and convince them.

Be sure to check whether or not you're still in contract with whoever, though, but seeing as it's been a year and most places do 12-18 month contracts, you should be good.
If not, suck it up is all you can do.
