I imagine this topic as a place where people who never played a game in a series ask where to start, and I would like to start with asking about Thief and X

I apologize if a similar topic exists.

Thanks in advance.

Considering that Theif is a reboot, and X is a stand-alone story, it doesn't matter where you start.

Having said that, playing Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii will give you a background into the mindset of X's creators.

Likewise, if you can deal with older graphics, hit up Steam for the old Thief games. I enjoyed the heck out of the 3rd one, which was my first, and it wasn't too much to catch up on story.

Unless when he refers to X series he actually means the X series as opposed to the Xeno series.

On that most people I feel would point you towards X3. It honestly doesn't matter where you start, the story in most of them isn't worth a damn. Its all about the universe and building up your own "corporate" empire however you see fit.

Although personally I never really enjoyed X3 as much as X2. *shrug*

Thief: The Dark Project/Gold (with newdark 1.21 patch and hd texture pack from ModDB) (massive # of fan missions)
Thief: The Metal Age (with newdark 1.21, not sure if the t1 texture pack works for it) (massive # of fan missions)
Thief: Deadly Shadows (there's a modern resolution support patch somewhere, probably ModDB)
The Dark Mod (ingame mission downloader for fan missions)
Watch the development of Thi4f with morbid curiosity

That's how I'd do it.
