[HEADING=1]------------------------New 2D HD sonic game announced----------------------[/HEADING]
Oh Sonic, Sonic Sonic...you have indeed suffered much through the years. You started off at the top, had a brief success with 3D through the much loved Sonic Adventure series, but after Sonic 06 (which we would love to forget) and a myriad of not so great titles, many were waiting for the day you would take that long walk into obscurity. But don't cry for him just yet Sonic fans, it seems like you called out to SEGA, and they listened. SEGA have an all new Sonic game coming, and to the relief of many (and the dismay of few) this game will be completely in 2D.
"Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay" says Sega of America's Ken Balough. "Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis. Project Needlemouse is that critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots."
So those of you just tuning in, we have a new Sonic game from SEGA, it's 2D, and sources such as Kotaku confirming that instead of a retro remake, this game will be in HD.
Now that you've pinched yourself, and your arm hurts, I guess you'll be asking when it's out? Well the release date is "2010", so nothing truly concrete. We'll just have to wait and see how this one pans out, and whether or not this one succumbs to the dreaded "Sonic Cycle" [http://pics.fort90.com/forum/sonic_cycle.jpg] like the rest of recent years.
Update: A teaser site [http://www.needlemouse.com/] is now available (because you know, we don't have enough teaser sites this year).
