Hey, I've decided I'm finally going to upgrade from my original DS to get a 3DS but I'm not sure whether to buy a new 3DS (about £150) or an original 3DS (about £100). Basically my question is should I pay the extra £50 for the newest version of the 3DS?

Thank you for any advice :)

If you have the money to spend on it there's no real reason to get the 3DS vanilla over the New 3DS.
It's got improved processing power, a second c-stick and improved 3D display. I believe its still backwards compatible as well (with DS original games, that is)

With me, the only thing I was really interested in was being able to play the new games. I didn't particularly care for the 3D-ness. I went with the 2DS, because it lets me do all I wanted (plus, I prefer it without a hinge).

Right now there's very little games even announced that are New 3DS only, that being said I imagine there being a lot in the future, the New 3DS is only around $200 so it's not too bad, and I'd say go for that rather than have to upgrade in a few years again when there are more games that are only for the N3DS that you want.

I'd say get the New one. Some games coming out are only gonna be playable on it so you never know... could be it'll replace previous 3DS's. You'd be ripping if you bought an old one and suddenly 1 year later; you can't get any new games for it.

I never got around to getting a 3DS (so there are a whole library of games I want to play on it) and I was going to finally get one last Autumn but then I heard about this New one and held off. Still holding off at the moment, hoping the price will fall a bit (I want a New 3DS XL) but I may finally lose patience and just get it for what it is now (about £180).

The New 3DS is more than a worthy upgrade from your original DS.
A lot of the issues with the older models have been fixed with this one.

Granted if your short on money you can always invest in a 2DS/3DS XL.

New one for sure, the 3D head tracking is genius, it uses an infrared sensor to track your head so it even works in the dark. I almost never used the 3D feature on the old 3DS and now I constantly use it.

Plus the C-stick, extra buttons, sleeker design, bigger battery, better processor, and built in NFC/amiibo support make it an easy choice. N3DS for sure.

Buy a New 3DS: The better processor, battery life and and built-in c-stick 'nub' make it a worthy purchase over an older 3DS model.

The only problem I've been having with mine is the insane image ghosting that happens when you have the 3D on - especially in Monster Hunter 4U. :(

If you're going to get the new 3DS, are you getting the XL version or you mean the latest newest one with another analog pad on the right side?

I just got the new 3DS, and I'm so glad I waited for it. I never had an original 3DS, and when I had used one, I was rather unimpressed with the 3D gimmick. The N3DS screen/3D features don't feel like a Gimmick, but a feature. It actually works right and there is very little crosstalk (ghosting) on it.

The original had a lot of crosstalk, so it was better to turn off the 3d completely. I have the slider maxed constantly, and I barely notice any of the crosstalk.

@EbonBehelit

Are you sure your model isn't defective, or that the 3D has been calibrated correctly? It is invisible most of the time, and when it is visible, it's not distracting at all.

The new hardware makes the 3D actually work and while it's (apparently) only a marginal difference, the newer model has a better battery life. The C-Nub is also the thing that people have been complaining about wanting since the 3DS was revealed way-back-when. I'd spend the extra $50 on the new one if I were in your position.

Definitely go with the new one! The head tracking feature seems like something fantastic, because that was a major problem with the original 3DS.

Go with the new one, as you will still be covered in case Nintendo makes more exclusive games to the new 3DS like others have pointed out. I have a feeling they won't make too many, at least not for a while, but you never know. It's best to cover all your bases.

Plus the better battery life and better 3D only makes it better. Though I still don't care to use the 3D much anyway even after it's gotten so much better on the new model.
