So lately, after seeing the Episode of Bardock, a few other specials, and the cutscenes in Ultimate Tenkaichi, I wondered, could there ever be a new Dragon Ball series? I mean GT ended with Goku and Vegeta JR, so they could do shit, or there could be something involving the Saiyans in the past, and their dealings with Lord Frieza.

Thoughts, could they pull it off?

As much I want a new series, I don't think they could pull it off. They would be little they could do to make a new enemy interesting and unique, the only things interesting about Baby was how he went super-saiyan great ape and his back-story. So I don't think they should continue from the end of GT.

The only choice I think they have is to just go into the past and explain some things more. Like you said, they could do stuff with Freiza or Saiyans. An idea I had is that they should make a series about Vegeta's story as a child while the events of the original Dragonball were going on. But still, it would be very difficult to pull off unless Akira Toriyama made it himself, but I heard he doesn't want to make Dragonball anymore.

Nope.

The series was struggling enough during the Buu saga, and the less said about GT, the better.

Seriously? When every man and his dog can go super saiyan, it devalues it somewhat.

They should just leave it as it is. There's nothing worse than beating a dead horse. It's a great show it doesn't need new episodes because the ones it has are amazing.

Just watch the Abridged Series DBZ by Team Four Star. It's the same content as the show, but far, far more hilarious.

I did love it but I wouldnt really want them to make it as anyone can see that it has ended and making anymore would just be trying to get more money, like that god awful live action film that came out a few years back.

As much as I loved DB and DBZ, I don't think it'll ever happen. Akira Toryama is done with Dragon Ball, I think. At least we have TFS and some good games.

When a dog turns super saiyan, it brings up serious questions about who the father of this half-saiyan dog is : \

but yes, I was literally angry when I saw Goten turn super while playing with his mother.... I mean, if it was so easy for him, then why didn't Goku turn super when he was hit by a car and then shot by Bulma in the first episode of DragonBall?
OT:
After this long, I doubt it's going to happen, that might be for the best.

Check out dragonball online

It's a game, it's not in english, but it's meant to be the (quote unquote) 'true' sequal to dragonball Z some fans say, and toriyama has been working on it apparently. People do translate a bunch of the info, and you don't have to speak korean/chinese/etc to be able to look at promo art and screenshots so it's all good.

It does seem pretty neat, though you take it with a pinch of salt since it's a game and therefore some of the story/aethetic stuff was done solely as pandering to fans in the game.
(eg. all the player-created humans apparently have a tiny bit of saiyan DNA, which means they can make a wish with the dragon to unlock super saiyan. As i said, obviously done as a bit of super saiyan fan service)

It doesn't count GT as having existed, and is set hundreds of years after Z (though apparently you time travel to various points in dragnballs history)

There's a group called the time breakers, who are messing around with the timeline. There's a 'time patrol' trunks who goes around trying to stop them.
Majin buu makes an entire race of majins, namekians move to earth after the time breaks destroy new namek, there's also the 'red pants army'(basically red ribbon army v2) and evil namekians which look pretty bad ass (they have an evil korin and evil popo! to go with their evil lookout tower and presumably evil kami :p i make it sound stupid when i say it like that bit it looks cool from the concept arts and stuff i've seen.) and all sorts of other cool stuff if you're into dbz and want to check out some new 'material'.

I guess there's also dragonball heroes, some arcade machine card game thingy, that's neat cause they have some promo videos which are actual new dbz animation things, and some new character designs (eg. 6 saiyan 'heroes' [3 male 3 female], 3 namekian 'heroes', 3 majin 'heroes' and 3 frieza race 'heroes').

But no, I don't think they will make a proper new dragonball series. Maybe some OVA and promotional animations, but thats about it. It's a shame cause i think they could potentially make a pretty neat new anime series about dragonball online. Avoids the issue GT had cause it isn't just 'and then they transform to the NEXT level of super saiyan, but suddenly theres and EVEN STRONGER bad guy waiting again' which was already stale by the time buu came around (not that i didn't enjoy buu saga, but it was kinda as far as you can push it before the bubble bursts)

There?s lot of great ideas they could scope for Dragon Ball series, and it doesn't have to continue on from Z (if it did, they'd at least have to scale things back, maybe get a fresh new cast with the descendants of Gokuu and Krillin or something like that). They could do something on the child of Katatz/Piccolo & Kami?s backstory, Roushi?s backstory, sitcom-esque adventures of Mr. Satan and Mr. Boo, what Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz got up to after their race was destroyed, etc.

Although I think they need to give the franchise a bit of a rest for a while now. The market?s become far too oversaturated in one unoriginal game after another in the space of a year.

well before vegeta and goku jr, goku flies off with shenron and the dragon balls. Which means earth essentially lost its two greatest assets goku and the balls.
I wanted to see at least a movie where vegeta is now the guardian of earth and perhaps has to take on an ancient saiyan from a race that predated his own that relied on calming and finding peace for power and can nullify chi attacks and is now seeking retribution.

The last I saw of Dragon Ball was GT, and boy, that was pretty fucking terrible. And I thought it was terrible way before I became the cynical asshole I am now. Better let the series die in peace than risk another embarrassment.
well if you didnt like gt it was probably cause you didnt like the original dragon ball which is what the first part of gt was most like.

I'd rather see a Dragon Ball spinoff or something than straight up carrying it on. Maybe in the past or hundreds of years in the future or something?
