Sounds pretty great to me. Mix is very different, drums are a lot quieter, and you can actually hear the bass again which is fantastic.

Seems like a return to earlier years, which I'm completely happy about. Might be the first DT release I've been excited for for some years.

Thoughts?

I've never been much of a Dream Theater fan as I've disliked a few of their songs my friend showed me, but this is really good.

Question though: according to the comments Mike Portnoy is no longer the drummer. What happened to him? Just decided to leave or what?

It's Mike Portnoy, and I think he wanted the band to have a break as he thought they were stagnating (I think that's how the story goes)

If you haven't heard their old stuff (Images and Words, Scenes from a Memory, Awake) then I would recommend it. Miles ahead of the last few albums.

James Portnow is the Extra Credits guy. I do the same thing.
OT: As unhappy as I am with the band and Mike leaving and all that, the track is great. Already listened to it a while ago. Hopefully there's a bit more emphasis on drums for the rest of the album, though I suppose the newbie can't really hope to match Portnoy... It really is quite depressing to know he's gone.
I'm very disappointed in the people saying they prefer the early work lol. I've always preferred the post 2000 albums, though you can't really go wrong with any of them.

Game, set, and match go to Mr. Mangini as far as I'm concerned. This track isn't a great showcase of his talent, but Mangini is miles ahead of anything Portnoy can do.

I like it. Picked up Scenes From A Memory a few days ago, and I'm looking forward to this one. When's the CD out?

Mike Portnoy pulled full drummer duty for Avenged Sevenfold when their regular drummer died. After their tour he wanted a break, but Dream Theater didn't want to take one, so they went their seperate ways.

Yeah, it does actually sound more like their earlier stuff, which at this point is a great thing. I thought Black Clouds and Silver Linings was a really uninteresting album, not...bad just not memorable. This track has the same feel as the stuff on albums like Awake and When Dream and Day Unite, I think the next album could be on of their best if they keep this quality up.
