I've been gaming since I was able to physically hold a control in my hands and I've owned everything from the Magnavox Odyssey to the Wii U. I've had favorite games, hated game, great series and not so great series, but as it stands, is this industry ready for the next generation? Think about it, with the amount of games that re subpar and the stupid little things that the industry can't abolish or accept, will new technology fix old problems? Will companies use the technology for better? Right now, NO, NO THEY WON'T. I have faith because the greatest companies in my opinion are still rolling with the punches, however the Antichrists of the gaming industry are still massive and infamously stupid.
I don't care about anything that I can't get solid information on, so all the "No used games" and "Killing gamestop" things don't phase me, but if I buy a shiny new system, will the only thing to come out be CoD/Streetfighter/Mario/Assassins Creed/Sonic? (And there are about 10 other franchise that need to slow the hell down. I'd say anything pass 5 games despite spin-offs or "genre change." When I start choosing my games for my PS4 (which I'll be getting about 3-4 months after release) I hope the games out will be not even good, but satisfying. No game (or series) can last forever unless your Dr.Who or Detective conan and even then, you have to grow as a series/developer/fanbase.
I don't mind series, hell I've been a fan of the Metal Gear series since the release of the game and I have every since game that had come out (or some version of it) But it's a series that needs to slow down, and as it continues, it may have quality, but it's dragging on, even though I would give blood to keep it going forever.
Shiny graphics don't mean anything it you don't have the salad to compliment the steak. There are great things out, and coming out, but with the industry hanging on to stupidity and just nasty/bad practices on publisher/developer/consumer (me included) That shiny beacon of awesome is slowly going to end up being a $300-$1000 dust collector/entertainment unit.
The industry is suffers from a lot of problems:
-Gamestop
-"Safe" game series copouts (Streetfighter/Cod
-DRM
-(Insert evil corporation here)
-Fanbases
-Game Franchises that need to die
-Equality between Male and Female gamers/Characters (More a problem with human society)
-Online passes
-Competition that leads NOWHERE (CoD vs BF3 anyone? ~ You like one, you hate one, you like both)
-DLC that is worthless/Invests in DLC/season passes that make you feels robbed. $4.99 for 3 costume that mean nothing? To the game?
-Costs of developing a game are poking (insert Ultimate deity from your religion here) in the gut
-Quantity over Quality
-$60 for new games (and finding out that the game is only worth $50/$40/$30 or less in gameplay/story/polish/content)
And that only the tip of the iceberg; now who's going to buy a $300-$1000 console/Gaming pc when games cost $70-$120 (Without special edition tag/extreme addition)? It's not that I'm afraid of the new generation, I'm afraid of old habits that will be amplified when the newer consoles come out.
Discuss please; what do you folks think?
