I'd like to get a new graphics card for my computer. Before I go out and buy one I'd like to get some recomendations from people first. At the moment I'm considering this 9800GT http://www.citysoftware.com.au/Browse/e6667a0309fd4dfd97d5750b4345850c001ItemDetail.aspx
I'm willing to go as high as AU$300

Make sure you're case is big enough, your power supply good enough etc etc etc, before you buy.

I have a Radeon HD 4870 and I love it so far, It also said on the box that It can enable my computer to play blu ray or something(I haven't tried playing blu ray yet so don't take my word for it, but I will be back after doing a quick search on it).

The 9800 made my computer explode and now I am stuck on a sub-par laptop.

Honestly, I'd go with a GTX 260 or a GTX 280.

I have an EVGA GTX 260 myself, and the thing is fantastic*. Only problem is I don't know any AU retailers, so I can't exactly find you a price in AU dollars.

*Just make sure you have AT LEAST a 600 watt power supply, and a fairly spacious case. Like Phantom2595 said.

For the love of all things tasty, trust only Eggo for this.

He was built for for computer-ma-rizin', much like vanilla is made for everything.

I reccomend the evga 9800 gtx+ if you already have a 64 bit system, looks to be the same price, and i'm very happy with it. but im not sure on the conversion to aussie currency. comes stock overclocked.

If you have a 32 bit system, don't go with more than 512 memory. I never knew that the 4 gb limit included video card memory.

I'm moving to Aussie pretty soon, and so I want to ask this-what are some good outlets to buy a laptop capable of some gaming? (I only care about mediocre graphics--I don't need it on high setting.) Also, is this going to cost significantly more than buying it else where? (Are there special taxes for electronics in Aussie?)
And in general, what spec should I be finding for the said laptop? Should I just go for Window Vista? (Maybe dual-boot it with Linux of some form?) I aim to use it generally for typing (I will have a usb keyboard and mouse), and I don't mind small screen.

For about the same price, you'd be able to get the 9800GTX+. However, you have to have the power and the space to fit it in (I'm doing fine with 530W).

So you should. I am getting a new setup tommorow and it has a Sapphire Radeon HD4870 1GB. It's awesome.

Your pic really wants to make me pick up playing Sniper in TF2 again (even though I suck horribly) because I'm moving.
Don't forget to pack plenty of cooling power in your computer too.

I heard there was not much difference between an 8800GT and a 9800GT.
That's what I heard too but I cant find one anywhere and the only one I did find was $600.
My case looks quite big, I'll post some pics in the morning and see what you all think.
Thanks for all your help so far

I use an nvidia 7950 GT, and I'm perfectly satisfied; great graphics, relatively quiet, and overall just runs smoothly.
