ok. how many of you work in a game related job? how many have a telephone nearhand in that job? how many times have you been asked for a nintendo product in the last 2 months? Welcome to Nintendrome! its the condition we all get after that 40th time of being asked the following...
"do you have any Wii's? When are you getting them? THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH I HAVE A 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO GOT A PROMISE FROM SANTA THAT SHE WOULD HAVE ONE!!"
but don't worry, the rush is over-ish (if mario goes then the world is safe but that likely to never happen) I for one am a little tired of nintendo's ways of manipulating the public into believing that thier products are as nesscessary as a washing machine or a toaster.. you'll understand if you ever see some of the people who buy Wii's, no idea what it is but the kids want it so it must be useful.., never heard of mario, can't pronounce Wii half the time. So what do you guys n gals think? (here comes the whole point of my post lol) is nintendo making the games industry into a joke? or has it somehow made the public into Wii craving zombies? for good or bad?

but you gotta admit, its trying to run from one fad to the next, ok so what isnt, but the point is that many many people buy nintendo because they are told to. im not a fan myself but i like the DS and a lot of the games they have are good. your probably right though i won't argue. just from my few months experience in work is how i drew my thoughts up.

i can guarantee you my parents had no idea who mario was when i got my NES, and probably don't to this day. it sounds like you're dealing with a bunch of pushover parents who spoil their kids and have no idea what they're doing. great. i don't think this is nintendo's fault, they are just idiots with babies.

i wonder what state the video game industry would be in to be considered a joke. pretty abstract concept there. the closest i can fathom is when games exist solely to make the devs money, and aren't any fun. like if every game was the quality of big rigs over the road racing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kghq06IQ-co&feature=related [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kghq06IQ-co&feature=related]) as long as there are good games out there i don't see the industry as being a joke.

lol! best line ive ever heard!!

ok so now on to my strangly unimportant opinion. too many ppl get hyped over the wii for wrong reasons. you have to realize that as serious as nintendo is, they rarely seem to come out with good games. i have at least 30 gamecube games sitting at home that i would despise ever touching again. but then nintendo has one thing very unique. i guess the theory of 99 monkeys in the same room will write shakespeare comes to mind, but every once in a while nintendo seems to come out with a truly brilliant game. for me it was ocarina of time, super smash bros melee, and possibly even pikmin. now that smash bros brawl is coming out, im thinking that nintendo couldnt think of a good enough of an idea when the wii came out so they settled on their previous success. personally im drooling for brawl to come out, with that child's-face-in-the-toystore-window crave for the game. all im saying is that people are raising their expectations for the wii when there really hasnt been a truly defining game... yet. nintendo hasn't yet become a joke, but if it wants to copy halo and CONTINUOUSLY fall back on previous games then nintendo will fail. but if its luck continues and it does make the blue moon successes that it has in the past, nintendo will probably stay ahead or at least beside those xbox lovers out there.

when i worked at EB for a Month, family's shouted at me for kid friendly X-box games for a 5 year old, i had to explain the x-box wasn't a console with alot of games geared towards children
Someone who brought a PS2 debated whether to buy a memory card, even after i said it was basically required if they wanted to save Progress

and Nintendo is the Grand Daddy of Company's out, With Family and child Orientated games, and you should cant complain cause its the same for the PS3 during the Christmas Rush, sorry to say it sounds like your just complaining cause you have to repeat yourself at work
Actually, I've worked through this past X-mas at a game retailer. People don't ask for the PS3 NEARLY as much as they do for the Wii. At our store, people even asked for the 360 far more than the PS3, but that might just be the demographic of the area our store is in.

But still, it's not their fault for asking. The problem stems from the fact that they start getting hostile because of something that's not in the store's control. Honestly, between the Wii, Guitar Hero III and Rock Band, I could talk your ear off for days about some of the stupidity, hostility, and irrationality that I've had to put up with on a daily basis.

end boss hit it nicely there. when people get hostile. it's just a machine, and from what some people say its not a terribly good one. what anoied me and a lot of staff ive talked to was how silly the whole thing got.

This isn't just a game issue, it's an issue of Customers being Irrational.

I've not worked retail, but in my other jobs I've seen the same situation. I worked for a Carpet and Furnace Cleaning outfit. That summer we had flooding in the south of the City, and we got 40 calls a day.

S: May I help you?
C: I need my basement cleaned out.
S: Sorry, we don't do flood damage.
C: WHAT? But Servpro does it!
S: Then I would suggest you call Servpro.
C: I can't, they're busy!
S: (In my head) Gee, wonder why?

The second a Customer can't have what they want right freakin' now, the Five Worst Words Ever Strung Together make them act like children.

Fast forward to my current Job. Concessions at a Sporting Venue. The second we're out of Hot Dogs it's 'F*cking stupid', 'Unacceptable', or 'Retarded'. I once had a customer insist I brave the crowds to another stand and GET him what he wanted.

So Games Retail people, I feel your pain, but it'll never go away, because we've stopped letting Darwin's theories work on Mankind, thus the Stupid is here to stay.

Back in the days on rock carving, all the stupids would have been eaten. Damn human progression! We need some kind of world wipe geneoside to dim out the ranks. Where's the evil alien races when you need them?

I work for a second hand games retailer and we got swamped over xmas for both Wii's and DS's. because we were one of the few retailers to have them in stock, my company pushed the prices up, and we were selling a second hand DS for around £190 (supply and demand people, it's just business).
we were telling custys that nintendo hadn't made enough of the consoles to meet demand. i personally think that's bull.
they knew what the demand was like last year and had plenty of time to push production up in time for xmas.
i reckon it was all a sneaky marketing ploy. make fewer units available, and the public will want them more. that's why the PS3 launch was a flop. they had too many available and the public didnt hunger for it.
i say nintendo made the public into wii-zombies through clever marketing and didnt make a joke of the industry, they're just money-grubbing bastards.

in my town (now i dont know if this was done anywhere else) but some stores that got Wii's in pushed thier prices up to around 300 quid for the basic system with nothing else while we were swamped by peopel wanting it cheaper off us until we got a memo from some kinda nintendo rep or something stating that we were getting "special edition" packages to be sold at the price stated. i think it helped in a sence to make ppl feel as if they wernt coughing up silly money, but since the special edition was just the Wii in a fancy box with 2 or 3 games it didnt exactly look liek nintendo were doing us any favors. i agree with the money grubbing comment and the supply and demand trick. clever but infuriating.
