So any recent genres or groups or even sounds that you have discovered you never knew you would like or even thought existed?
Lately I got a little obsession with something that seems to be called "dark cabaret." But i just call it evil circus music for now. Examples;

They covered elephants on parade!!!

At a guess, I would say it speaks to a manic confusion between wanting to entertain the public and wanting to kill them all!! Haha! (Jking...orr am i??) Also I always wanted a band like the Cat Empire but filtered through an evil parallel dimension version of themselves or a decade long period of acute manic depression. Their lyrics are often too consistently about joy and friends and fun, which is OK, but not all the damn time, it starts to sound tiring and certainly suspicious.

And whatever this type of music would fall under;

Now release your evil, newfound tastes upon the virtual stage of judgement!! Do not fear, it is mostly painless. ;) This is admittedly only going to appeal a tiny, specific pool of people who probably don't exist on these forums. Yet.

Not exactly new, but I've been listening to Unexpect a lot lately. Particularly their last album, Fables Of The Sleepless Empire. It scratches pretty much all of my musical taste based itches without doing anything I dislike enough to turn me off it. A dark tone, surreal, abstract lyrics that seem to pertain to some strange fantasy universe yet somehow sometimes manage to seem relevant to my life, a nice mix of elegant clean vocals and aggressive, but not overdone growls, and a heavy, complex, many layered composition that never feels repetitive and consistently keeps my interest.

I don't know of any other band that quite captures the same qualities so well. Most of them miss the mark in more than one regard, never mind meeting all of my very specific preferences.

That's pretty nice sounding band. I haven't listened to prog-rock for a while due to many bands starting to lose variety in their separate tracks. But they're a little more distinguished in sound. Also, I didn't mean new as in current artists, but newly found to you...no matter how old the music. :) All is allowed!

There is a group called The Mechanisms that pass themselves off as immortal space pirates sharing their adventures through song.

As for their music they tend to re-fashion classic stories into musical tragedies. Their works include greek gods ruling over a city powered by human brains, redressed King Arthur into a wild west dystopian setting and originals stories of their own.

Found them one day and was pleasantly surprised such a thing existed.

Another group would be The Bushwick Book Club.

A book club which writes/performs songs of the book they read that month.
Apparently they do it for educational reasons to inspire reading/songwriting and such.

Well, even considering that, I've been listening to this album for most of this year I think. Also I've been aware of the band for about 10 years, though they were a bit too heavy [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwbEi1JRa7w] for my tastes at the time. I suppose given the slow rate that I find new music I like, that this might as well still count as new to me, if only because it hasn't had many other discoveries piled on top of it on the stack.

Another semi-recent discovery was Smallman, an odd Bulgarian band to add to my collection of vaguely Tool-like groups.

I gotta thanks to this member of the pony group on here (I think it was Pinkamena?) for this-

I'm not familiar with this music other than I know several adverts used similar tune to this but this is the first time I actually paid attention to it!

That, my equestrian acquaintance, is a form of glitch-hop I think...a wondrous genre with many great, weird, fun gems. Dive right in!

Quite nice finds there, am liking the vocal presentation of the first group. One must believe and commit to their words with zest to perform well. :)

You had me at "Tool-like" really. That band is going on the remember list, as Tool-like groups are incredibly elusive to me. And Tool don't seem to like releasing music, damn you, Maynard! Am a sucker for the dark, grimy unrefined raw instrument sound. When combined with genius talent, it tickles all the right music neurons! XD

Match of the Day theme tune. It's only 30 seconds long, but I have it on repeat while I'm at the gym.
Umm, I do not even remember how that goes. *Scampers back into cave of shame*

Here are a few tunez that have slid across the desk. Weather or not they will find a home in the line-up is anyone's guess.

Daughtry.

My God. Chris Daughtry has the most amazing, beautiful voice and music that hits me right in the heart and soul. It's why I have been feeling so positive and confident lately. So much emotions in many of his song that I can't stop listening.

I'm not going to post video's atm, enough tabs open already.

Darchon - The Stygian Black Beyond.

Atmospheric black metal that invokes space travel, ironically much better than No Man's Sky can.

I'm digging your dark cabaret. Definitely sounds like something I could get into.

I'm a huge fan of the soundtrack for Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, particularly the main theme which is ostensibly a part of the jazz genre but is very dark and moody.

I was scrolling through the comments (for some reason) and came across a mention of a band called Bohren & der Club of Gore. I checked them out and absolutely loved it. I don't know what you'd call the genre. Dark ambient with jazz elements? Whatever it is I absolutely love it.

For those that are averse to the odd embed...teehee;

Some tracks of his remind me of 3 doors down a little bit. Which is never a bad thing. :)

I'll have to listen to this a bit later, currently nursing a little accidental hangover which makes certain genres a little unwise to consume XD

Because obvs I'm so nice and would never wish anybody any de...

If laughter is truly the finest music a single human can produce, then well played, kind sir!

Those are great! Already added to library! Thanks for sharing. ;)

Mindless Self Indulgence - How I Learned to Stop Giving a Shit and Love Mindless Self Indulgence (2013)

Hardly news to anyone and I knew full well about their existence, but never really listened to them.
I have recently discovered Witness while browsing for some AMVs, and then I listened to the rest of the album and found it somewhat dark and very satirical, yet hopeful in a subtle way. Which, it turns out really resonates with me.
Its been years since I last listened to them! Tis always great to be reminded of forgotten gems. :)

Ooh, almost forgot;

I love this guy's solo Work. Like Xavier Rudd, he is much better as a solo performer...I believe necessarily inspiring for any musician going it alone;

A non-live version of above;

One for luck;

Please do not say such things; they are harsh and undeserved. Would you like a hug or something?

OT: I don't know how new this is, but I quite like it:

Went down nostalgia lane and listened to some old Avril Lavigne music.
Apparently her new stuff is pretty good too.

Hehe! Nice addition to compliment the music there ;) Glitch hop is apparently interwoven with gaming I have somehow literally only just discovered today by trying to find this track online;

Sweet, funky raccoon sounds.

Livin' da vi da Lavigne is still going? That is a certain blast from the slightly recent past. I am a little scared of revisiting there! ;)

Well ive been listening a lot to Adele lately. which is odd because im usually a heavy rock/metal kind of guy that hates pop music.
