Hello Escapist

The new game... I mean movie trailer for Need for Speed is out and wondered what you thought?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3wtVI-aJuw - Looks like Jesse Pinkman is moving away from the meth game.

To me it just looks like a start to download movie NOT cinema release. Once again Hollywood fucks up another "gaming" movie. Oh EA, I didn't know you needed more money. ¬_¬

We already get a new Fast and Furious practically every other year (which has now been bumped down to a yearly deal), why do we need -more- car-themed movies? D:

ALSO if you dont like it then dont watch ignore it etc).

Uh... Need For Speed has been for the most part nothing but a faceless guy driving cars in an unrealistic manner. They just added a little backstory and made a movie. What's so bad about that?

I know the story about Bloated Development Costs, but making a feature film really going to save them that much money?

We don't. But people who like those sorts of movies do. They only have Fast and Furious.

Wow.

I can't hate this. I just can't. It's too bloody funny watching them try and work drama and explosions into a movie based on a car racing video game.

To put it in a more gaming perspective, we already have a yearly release of Call of Duty, why do we need more shooters? We already have World of Warcraft, why do we need more of that with a different paint job? Companies that strive to do the exact same thing as their competitors because it made a buttload of money for that first studio to find the figurative gold mine only serve to weaken their industries in the short term and even more the long term.

And I don't ascribe to ignoring something. It exists, so you should acknowledge it. I may dislike Twilight, but I don't ignore it because it has an impact on culture. I may dislike Fifty Shades of Grey (although, I don't dislike it for the reason you might think of), but I won't ignore it. It's much too idealistic to ignore something just because you don't like it and also rather naive as well.

I guess you have a point.

I cant really agree thougt, since I also like COD and I dont see what is wrong with it having a sequel every years if people like it... same for WOW altougth I dont play that thing.

I guess they definitivly have an impact in our culture, definitivly... but what are you going to do about it? OK, you cant ignore it 100%, but what then? Are you just going to hope than they randombly stop making a game/movie that a lot of people love just because you personally dont enjoy it? Sounds kinbda selfish if you ask me, no offence.

I like both CoD and WoW. I'm also someone who likes all of the Fast and the Furious movies for being amusing enough popcorn flicks. But I have a yearly release of CoD and a yearly release of FatF. I have WoW. I've already got these. In my opinion, the more isn't merrier in these situations. We've already seen studios try to put out their own version of CoD or WoW and having it massively hurt them and their studio -and- the game that inspired them as well. Inundating a population only serves to weaken in the long run and I would hope that they would not randomly stop making a game or movie a lot of people love just because I don't personally like it, but rather hope that others don't try and jump on the same bandwagon. I have my CoD. I have my WoW. I have my FatF. I want studios to try something new. I don't want these, just by new people and a different coat of paint.

I assure you that I've become quite sick of zombies at this point because I've been inundated with them.

What I wanna know is why base a story on a game that doesn't have one. And when it does have one, it's just 10 minutes of cutscenes spliced in between racing. All I can think of is brand recognition: they're paying for the Need For Speed title.

Ok then, that is happening. Why the hell not.

Silver lining:
It will probably be the most faithful adaptation of a game to date. All the makers need to do is have expensive cars drive fast and they'll pretty much have succeeded.

Except theres one difference: I dont think its right to blame COD/WOW/Instert other popular series here, but rather, the companies and the industry for trying to copy them instead of coming up with something new, potentially better than said games even!.

Its not COD/WOW fault that they are popular and everyone tries to copy them for a quick buck...just my two cents.

To be totally honest, I like the idea. Something other than fast and furious. But I was hoping they would have based it off of like, the hot pursuit story line (that one was the cops vs racers right?) And I like Aaron Paul, so I will go see this, but I am cautiously optimistic. Looks waaaaay too serious.

But I'm not blaming CoD or WoW. In fact, I congratulate them for their success and I generally enjoy their success as well. I do, however, blame the other studios and that's what I'm doing with this Need for Speed movie as well. I'm blaming them for trying to cash in on something already done so successfully mostly because they want some of that pie as well. We've already seen how devastating it can be for studios, both film and game, to follow in their competitor's footsteps by doing the exact same thing as them.

Cool beans. Really no reason to get worked up about this. Hopefully it turns out good, but I won't hold my breath.

Problem with this is Fast and the Furious aren't the first car flicks. There's been a million of them. As a fan of the genre this doesn't look all that similar to the Fast and the Furious movies. If it looks like anything it looks like a lighter more expensive "Drive". Vehicular combat shouldn't be left to one franchise. That's where stagnation starts. Also movies that come from the success of other films are frequently superior to the "Original" . Unless the first trailer has completely lied to me, this looks like its own thing.

Granted there is going to be a fairly normal uproar of , Fast and the furious rip off but theri was one thing they could of done different, sure the FandF focus on exotic cars and muscles and whatnot but most of the NFS games focused on tuner based super customized cars.

They should of done this more like Tokyo drift and had it be about tuner cars, but of course since need for speed is focusing on what it used to be about, a position already taken by gran turismo now. The new games i think are basically redundant, I loved the need for speed games because of the tuner style custom cars street racing thing, and they took that away and now its just kinda eh.

If they had done the movie with street racing customized, like super customized cars, i would of watched it. But now, ehh not worth it since it seems from the trailer even the director is trying to rip off FandF instead of making something new, or maybe taking cues of other car movies, there are other apart from FandF, shock.
