New reviewer introduction

Hey forum.
I know you all even though you dont know me (for starters my apostrophe key and forward slash do not function). The escapist and its writings have been my top bookmarks all through college. If it is Susan Arendts smokey voice or Yahtzees tantrums, I have read them.

Ok, so this post is supposed to be an intro. Focus. College is over; time to get a real job. Pushing beakers in a lab all day gives you an overwhelming sense of your own mortality. Im looking for something else, hopefully in writing. The escapist has been a place for me to learn the style and format from others, and now Im looking forward to trying it out. My old blog is at the bottom, for some examples of random writings i made back at undergrad.

It looks like I just missed the user review challenge. Can a forum pro help a new guy out. (still no question mark key).

Well, first of all welcome to the Escapist, be nice and the mods won't give you any problems. And stay out of the basement, never go into the basement.

Now, with that out of the way, you might want to remove your link at the bottom, the mods don't take too kindly to advertising, even if it's not your intent. Regarding reviews, my best suggestion is really to read some of the other reviews in here and some of the stickied guides at the top by the mods, for an example this: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.120165-Your-Review-And-You-Welcome-to-the-Review-Section is very, very good. It gives a basic introduction to what to write and how to write it.

Doing an overall impression, instead of going into every little detail in your review is better, having pictures to break up the text and give people something to look at it nice as well, and last but not least, use good grammar, punctuation and line breaks. Hope it helps.

It does exist, and it is watching you all, but you'll never know where it is or how to find it.

Charmap is an easy work around for Windows if you're willing to go through the trouble.

Windows 7: Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map

Alternatively, you can click on the Start button then type charmap (or charmap.exe) and it should pop right up.

Unfortunately I only know Windows, so if you're working with another OS then I'm sure someone here can help you with a work around.

To Topdawn: Just post your reviews in the User Review section (which you seemed to find OK), and the readers will come. Most posters also link to previous reviews at the end of each review segment. You get more views, feedback, the viewer gets a better feel for your writing and whatnot. If you want some more specific info, I'd recommend sending a PM to one of the more frequent reviewers. Marter springs immediately to mind.

Out of curiosity, what would you be planning to review? Film, games, songs, art?
