So EA dropped a new trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront II at E3, along with showcasing a Clone Wars era multiplayer match on Naboo.

Some new info has also surfaced, including the return of trooper classes, the ditching of Battlefront 2015's powerups in favor of a skill-based point system to unlock powerful units like heroes and the confirmation that DLC...wait for it...will be FREE.

Am I dead? Is this a dream? Are those pigs flying outside my window? Did EA...actually LISTEN?!

That said, I still have some misgivings, particularly with news of "upgraded versions of all four trooper classes" if you pre-order the "Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition." I'm hoping it's not pay-to-win garbage, but I wouldn't put it past them. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Still, EA has managed to do the impossible (at least by their standards) by actually making me interested in this. Who knows, I may actually break my long standing boycott of the company and buy this if they do it right.

Skill-based point systems and rankings are retarded. You know why? Because it doesn't matter how good you are. It only matters how much you play. If you start out as a great player and fuck up repeatedly and endlessly, you're not gonna be demoted. It only goes up. It's a time-sink. This garbage needs to be dropped from multiplayer games.
No no, we're not talking about a career progression system here. It's basically like 2005 Battlefront II's approach to unlocking heroes, where they're locked away for everyone at the start of a match. When a player reaches a certain amount of points (awarded for actions like scoring kills, doing damage, healing, etc) they can then unlock the hero for one life. Any points left over are removed at the end of the match. It sounds a lot better than 2015 Battlefront's approach, where the only way to play as a hero was to camp powerup locations.

That said, it seems there is some form of cumulative career unlocks if the pre-order blurbs are any indicator. I just hope those unlocks are cosmetics that won't affect gameplay, though that's probably wishful thinking considering EA's track record. It's the biggest concern I still have for this game at the moment, as I too have grown to despise those types of systems.

It's cool to see The Phantom Menace get some appreciation. But I wonder if the Trade Federation infantry will have smaller hit radii. That's not fair.
Is that a thing? As in a bad performance in a game actually negatively affecting your progression. I don't think I have ever played a game like that. That's would just be annoying. But yeah, as Neverhoodian said, this isn't what BF17 is doing.

As for the droids, that is something that was annoying about the original SWBF2. The droids in desert maps could be freaking invisible. Perhaps they will balance out the smaller hit boxes with slightly lower health or something.

OT: I like what I see. The inclusion of prequel content, and in a surprisingly "fuck canon" way, guarantees this game as a buy for me. Probably not on day one or at full price, but that could change. I just really am surprised with how liberal they were with the clones and their appearances/abilities. The dogfighting doesn't look like utter trash like the last game, so that's already a plus. The addition of land vehicles is great, although it makes the Original Trilogy look shittier in comparison. And the combat roll is back baby! And not shit like the last game!

What I am worried about is the gunplay. Everyone says that it is better, but it doesn't look much better. A faster TTK is nice, but in terms of recoil and all that it doesn't look very interesting.

But fuck yes for the free DLC. I hate to see microtransactions come along with that, but hey, I'll take that over another 50 bucks and a split playerbase anytime.

DICE seems to be doing everything right so far. But then I felt the same about BF1 and I'm bored of that already, so I'll guess we'll see.

When I saw that leaked footage of playing as a Jedi I instantly asked myself "why don't they make a single player Jedi Action/RPG?" Something like a Jedi Knight game would be amazing.
Also, I don't know how to feel about this game now. They offer free DLC, and they're clearly exploiting the fact that I have a crush on Daisy Ridley. The bastards. THE BASTARDS!

I might have to get this one.

Given DICE/EA's massive history of handing out unlocks to people who pay extra, I expect some degree of Pay to Win in the sales.

I'm hoping that the rest of the inevitable micro transactions are centred around cosmetics Titanfall 2 style. I'm also assuming that this new Free DLC policy has been motivated by the dire drop off in players that Battlefront 2015 experienced, plus the increase in competition from titles like Overwatch that don't charge for gameplay features.

Still, broadly good news, I await the release and reviews with mild interest.
