This game is going to be seriously Full of Win. It may not come sooner but it will worth a time. My most anticipated game and I cant wait. System shock 2 was one of the best game of all time and if this one is half as good. its going to be one of the GOAT too.

Wait it's not a sequel? It's a remake... of the first one?! Nothing against that game, haven't played it yet, but usually when people talk about how awesome System Shock 2 is, they don't mention the first one, or do with very few positives to say. Maybe they'll learn from 2's success and remake accordingly.

The only thing really 'wrong' with the first SS is its graphics have aged poorly, and its general interface/controls were complex and rather clunky untill you got used to it.

Shodan was in all her shodan glory, the 'world' was a great place to inhabit, that for a long time I'd have loved to be able to explore Citadel Station before everything went wrong.

Pretty much this. Playing the original System Shock is not for you if you can't stomach early fps graphics. Also, much of the screen real estate is taken up by the HUD/interface, which as mentioned, is pretty clunky. As is controlling the game in general.

That said, System Shock's engine is arguably more advanced than many contemporaries such as Doom II, with features like looking up and down, crouching, crawling and a greater degree of interaction with the environment.

But if you're willing to overlook the graphics and controls, you do get a game thick with atmosphere and one that pioneered many of the tropes we've come to expect from fps/rpg hybrids such as the rest of the Shock games, the Deus Ex series and so on. If anything, it's worth playing just to see how much the subgenre has changed (and hasn't).

Maybe I'll pick it up the original before the remake launches, I can overlook graphics and controls if the game is immersive. I'm just waiting to see if they're gonna pull a Shadow of the Beast and put the original game as a unlockable for beating the new one, that would be a neat way to show how it evolved.

Watching that made me think that System Shock would make a great horror/thriller movie, kinda like Pandorum.

Get Denis Villeneuve cause he's on fire right now, and would undoubtedly nail the visuals and atmosphere. Hearing Shodan talking in a movie theater would send chills down my spine.

I really hope they don't mess this remake up. They seem to nail Shodan. But i'm stil heavily worried about the quality of the game.

The first System Shock is really good. I played recently, and it's amazing the depth of detail that they put into the setting, especially considering that it was released less than one year after Doom.
Though the controls, even in the enhanced edition, are terribly, terribly clunky. Doom is waaaaaaaay better on that front (especially when you get into things like ZDoom, which basically make Doom a new game, while keeping everything good about the original).

The first shock didn't have standard FPS controls. It was kinda like Daggerfall. It was back in the day before people figured out the whole WSAD+Mouse combination and had you use the mouse to aim within the screen, and have separate buttons to move around and look around... and it was basically designed for people to play with their hands and toes.

Which is too hard for people to stomach these days. At least SS2 had a more sensible WSAD+Mouse thing going on.
