'Which brings us back to the Sniper Rifle unlockable. In an effort to reduce some of the aggravation that other players feel towards the Sniper, we chose the goal of designing an unlockable that encouraged the Sniper to get a little closer to his target. We want him to give up some of his primary advantage in return for something else, so that enemies he kills feel like they were engaged with them, and feel like they could have survived if they'd just managed to fight a little better.'

Interesting...

Hm...my guess is a non-scoped rifle that you don't have to charge. However, knowing Valve, it's likely something more creative.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe an old rifle or Elephant gun...but then, whats the point of using it? Sniper is supposed to be the long range class...

I doubt many career snipers will adopt this unlock permanently

Hooray! But I question still how this will work. The sniper is built to be a coward long-range fighter, so why give the player something that contradicts that? I get the feeling that few snipers would be willing to use such a gun.

If a no scoped sniper then be cool but I doubt it as if remember didn't want the snipe to be overpowered in good player hands hence the charge up time so can't just no scope. Still fact making a more mid ranged weapon interesting as where I tend to be working with my team to push not just camping in the back doing sweet FA. My money on a semi automatic sniper but with no charge (holding 3 or 5 rounds.)

I'm envisioning something like an AWP.

EDIT: Not sure if it's an AWP, actually. But in CS, that automatic gun with the non-scoped zoom. The Bullpup I think it was called. Something like that.

A Semi-Automatic with fast Recharge and a higher chance of critting at close range.

I think a powerful medium-range sniper rifle with no telescopic scope is most likely.

The real question is "how powerful" though. I mean, Powerful, as in, a headshot will still down a Heavy?
I can only guess.

I'm more excited about how they're going to produce an alternative Gurkah knife.

I've been thinking about this update since the "Jarate" update. I'm predicting an M1-Garand or a more modern equivilant semi-automatic rifle. (with a slight zoom)

For a while I thought they might go the opposite way with something with a fictionally huge calibur and a muzzle break that would take much longer to load. (maybe the kickback stuns him for a few seconds)

As for the secondary, maybe a set of boleadora that entangle the enemy for a short time. (iffy)

Melee, Crocodile Dundee knife (extra damage to spies) "That's not a knife, THIS is a knife." :Þ

Interesting...I'm still looking forwards more to the Kukri Update.

As for the sniper rifle...who knows what the hell Valve's gonna do.
For all I know it will shoot rainbow bullets that target Scouts.

Valve is going to pull it off awesomely as they always do, and I look forward to it. The updates have always been simple but brilliant.

In an effort to reduce some of the aggravation that other players feel towards the Sniper, we chose the goal of designing an unlockable that encouraged the Sniper to get a little closer to his target. Wait, I thought that was the whole reason behind giving him a submachine gun as a secondary. That's the only reason I ever play as him; he's the only one with a continuous-spray gun that doesn't turn him into a (barely-)walking bullseye. Any actual sniping I may do is purely from luck. Needless to say, I probably will never be able to unlock the very weapon I seek.

I look forward to it with baited breath. I always play Sniper, you need an Aussie, you just do.

I forsee a boomerang as the melee unlockable.

That or valve will just let out 3 replacements for the rifle.

I don't know, I'm quite comfortable standing miles away from the action.
