Yeah! I love thief. Way better than Assassins Creed (sorry guys just my opinion). I had the first one for my PC when I was a teenager and been a fan ever since. Who else is excited about the new game? Anyone remember that awesome cut scene from the first game in which Garett's eye gets ripped out! Lovely stuff.

OT: I'm not too excited about the new Thief. First of all, I'm not a fan of reboots and that's what this game is...for some unknown reason. Second, I'm not thrilled by the direction it seems to be going in. I'll still hold my judgement until after it's released but for now, I certainly won't rush for it.

Meh.

I saw the gameplay preview. It basically looked like Dishonored, except with lousy visual design.

Plus you get extra XP for headshotting guards with arrows.

It might not be a bad game, but so far as I'm concerned it's on the Steam sale fodder list.

Am I the only one who played Dishonored as a Thief expansion/sequel/reimagining?

If you ever killed anyone in Dishonored then you did it wrong!

Clearly that's just an opinion and you can play the game however you like.

I felt instantly at home atop pipes, in the shadows, choking out guards only when necessary, bypassing them entirely whenever possible.

The original Thief series is amazing, and if anyone who's never played the games before is reading this go and pick them up from GOG.com as they're fantastic. Easily the best stealth series ever made.

The new upcoming Thief game though... ehhh... It looks pretty bad. Doesn't help either that they've completely changed the character, the setting, the gameplay, and just about everything that made Thief so unique.

Have they changed the character? Oh ***k a duck I didn't know that. Oh no! Who is it going to be?

The main thing that will make it familiar will be the shadows I think. That and the stealing. Give me nice things to steal and dark places to hide in and I'll be right at home.

Don't particularly care how anything else works. Thief 3 had a lot of rough edges. I think I would prefer it free-form and open world though. Missions are nice and focused but I think they may sacrifice some of the best elements if they remove the atmosphere achieved when you can go pretty much anywhere you like when you like. But as long as it all works the way it should...

Kind of what makes being Garett so exciting really. Did I mention stealing stuff? Water arrows to create darkness?

Yeah I'm still excited. How hard can that really be...? Don't answer that please.

Garrett...for some reason. But it's a different Garrett than before...again, for some reason. I think that can actually be the catchphrase and summation of the game so far: "Thief...for some reason".

What makes him different? New voice actor? New backstory? New mannerisms?

New voice actor, not many snarky comments so far, therefore most likely new mannerisms too.

Honestly, Im very sceptical about the new Thief. It will all depend how good the levels and the mechanics are, and it didnt look too good from what I have seen.

Being a prequel, it's a Young Garrett. Spontaneous, wild, reckless and with the regeneration aspect of Wolverine.
Basically, it's a Thief game only in the game.

I don't think it's a prequel.

I'm pretty sure he's missing the eye. Also the fact that the world is apparently different - not as supernatural and, if memory serves, the Hammerites aren't in it, too.

Im not overly concerned about the combat (although I am still somewhat concerned, just not overly).

Im more concerned about the bits we've heard about of having Garrett in forced sections of running through burning buildings in a daring high-action "escape"... for some reason.

I think they're taking too much inspiration from Dishonored (which is basically saying it's copying a copy of itself) and they're putting combat into the focus. The first two games almost felt like they were punishing you if you so much as scratched a guard's sleeves and here we have Thief 4 telling you to use crossbows and what not to kill guards.

I'm not very excited, but I'll certainly give it a try.
