Wandering through my habitual youtube scanning of the day, I was greeted by one of my videos by an advertisement that I couldn't bring myself to skip. Thinking for a while during it before uttering "This looks like Thief", before the commercial confirmed that suspicion after coining the motto "What's yours is MINE" Which I enjoyed thoroughly. Looking into it a little more, the Dev team is bragging about freedom, and the ability to play the game how the player wants. Which, coupled with the description of the main character as "No mere pickpocket, no vulgar assassin, Garrett is a shadowy figure skilled in thievery, stealth, infiltration and escape: the Master Thief." This is a lot of hype to accumulate after just a day of looking into the games advertisement without any real gameplay footage, but if the pictures coupled with the interviews were actual screenshots, then the graphics will be on par with that of Bioshock Infinite. Easily.
I wasn't really into the Thief Series until Deadly Shadows, but if you are as excited, or have any information that you want to show off, feel free to share here.
If you don't have any information, and would like some, here is the link to the official site.

If you want more information, Game Informer ran a cover story on Thief this month and has had a lot of coverage on it which you can access here. [http://www.gameinformer.com/p/thief.aspx]

As someone who's never actually played a Thief game but heard really great things about the franchise, I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one.

Quite the funny confirmation it got.The trailer was leaked on April Fools day pulled by the publisher and later confirmed and republished all on Aprils 1st.Im excited to see how the franchise will land on release cause quite a lot of people never played the originals back on the day. However with tittles like Deus ex:HR and Dishonored doing the stealth quite nicely and maintaining the option for the non stealth i am reluctant for the Forefather of pure-stealth.

FYI The original tittles were unseen or mission failed

EDIT:
FYI The original tittles were unseen or mission failed
Mission specific or edited files

That is the greatest leak date ever. I'm sure it's not the first time it's happened, but considering the fan base and the wait, it makes it all the better.
Yeah, I played Thief 2 in the past but I didn't know that it was unseen or fail. I was just trying my hardest not to be caught so I was really into the stealth. While doing stealth in Deus Ex and Dishonored might be good, they still have a lot of highly powered, superhuman combat mechanics. I'm hoping that the new Thief will leave you skilled, but not god-like. Making fights more dangerous, and thusly, preferably avoidable. Or at least something you will have to get good at.

I just hope that you are piss poor weak in combat like on the original. 1 guard, not a problem. 2 guards, hrmmm. 3 guards, pushing it...4 guards dead. It was garrets weakness in combat that made the whole game so good and the trend towards overpowering everyone and everything in games nowadays will kill all of the originals charms.

I have my fingers crossed but this dumb generation of gamers will never be upto the standards and challenges of the previous generation ;p

So long as combat is just optional I wouldn't mind it. I most enjoy Deus Ex: HR and Dishonored when doing no-kills, all-stealth runs. The latter game also plays quite similar to Thief if you play it that way and keep the supernatural powers limited to just basic Blink. In fact, I wouldn't mind if the new Thief turns out a clone of Dishonored with focus changed from murdering targets to stealing targets.

Nope, being seen is not an automatic mission failure in the first two games.

There are missions where having the alarm raised means failure or where knocking people out means failure. And on harder difficulties, killing anybody is automatic failure, but getting caught is not. Though if you really want the game to work like that, you can add a line to the .cfg file. But it is not a standard feature throughout the games. It depends on mission objectives and difficulty setting.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for that. I hope that the game has different difficulty settings that will allow the more dedicated players such as ourselves to play how we want, and then a harder difficulty. Then an easy mode for the people of now that can't handle a game where they can't just beat something down and pretend that was the real adversity.

Strange that i remember that was unseen or failure.Maybe it was a personal goal i wouldnt be surprised since i have the ghost/pacifist achievements on most stealthy games or i had modified the cfg

Only finished the third Thief game. I would like to hear more of the new voice actor, the old one was awesome. The new one features the gruffy soldier voice of the typical TPS/FPS but since he hasn`t said much i haven`t lost hope. The character of Garrett is unique in the gaming world if they don`t mess him up and the game is good it`s a sure buy.

Truth be told I was never that into Deus Ex, so when Human Revolution was announced I just shrugged and when it turned out well, it was a pleasant surprise for me.

Thief however. Thief is one of the games that defined my hobby. It's quite possibly my favourite video game series to date and I struggle to think of any other games out there that had nearly as much of an impact. Even before I bought the first game I must have played and replayed Bafford's Manor, the level in the demo (Which back then came on a demo disk I'd gotten buying Tomb Raider), well over two dozen times. I still have the layout of that place memorized near perfectly right down to the secret passage behind the tapestry in the gardens and the patrol route of the guards in the servants quarters.

So I'm more than a little hesitant about this new game. Some things I'm hearing I like, but other things... yeah. Not liking so much.

Still I guess I'll just have to wait and see whether they've screwed up or not.
