I just got the preview download from microsoft and I've just finished checking out all the new features, I LOVE IT!! =D
I seriously was not expecting a whole lot, because I can just access these apps from my PC and I thought that if they were brought to the XBOX they would just be watered down versions, I was wrong.
They really use the xbox interface well and I can navigate through them with no problem. I use facebook a lot and now I can visit it more often from my couch in the livingroom. I don't really use twitter so I'm not really phased with the xbox app (I'll try it out later and maybe I will get into it)
I am really impressed with last.fm. I Have never used last.fm before, I didn't even know what it was. I downloaded it and created an account, which took me less then a min, and I was browsing through, and listening to my favorite music genres in no time. Essentially, for people who don't know about last.fm, they have a load of different "stations" which stream songs on the fly, and each station is different, like some are for specific genres of music and some are based around a band/artist and stream random songs similar to that band/artist. There is no way (that I know of) that you can choose a single artist and browse all their songs and choose which one to play, it works kind of like a radio station (hence them being called stations), but there is an option to skip the song that is playing. You can even create your own station to add songs too, I found out that while a song is streaming, you can choose whether to add that song to your own station, so you can just stream your own station and have all your favorite songs playing! I checked out their website and downloaded the scrobbing application from their website, what this does is scans your PC for all your song history and adds them to your last.fm account, it might only be a few songs per artist I'm not sure yet. So now I have all my artists from my iTunes library and all those songs I found on other radio stations on my Xbox, streaming from my own station, and I can literally log onto this account on any xbox and stream all my songs. EPIC
These apps are solid and they are the best thing to happen to the 360 in a long time. I have 1 or 2 issues with it though, like I said earlier you can't browse individual tracks and are stuck listening to random songs in the library, and if you aren't subscribed to last.fm, there are 5-10sec adverts, but only when you open a new station.
This update was a pleasent surprize but what microsoft have given us are things we could already access on our PCs and have brought them to our xboxs and our livingrooms.
Has anyone else got this update? What do you think?
