I recognize that the Escapist isn't exactly a news site by any means, even in the gaming/entertainment media. I've noticed an increasing trend though where some of the news posts have been incredibly biased and filled with writer opinions being portrayed as facts. I really first noticed it a few months ago in one of the first official announcements for the new Ant-Man movie, where the writer verbally tore apart Ant-Man and more or less said it was a waste for him to get a movie, despite the fact he was a founding member of the Avengers.
Personally, I don't like Ant-Man, so this isn't a butthurt fanboy post or anything like that, that just happened to be the first article where I really noticed an incredibly biased article, and as I recall the comments section pointed it out as well. That was actually where I learned he had been a founding member and all that other stuff. What really irked me though was the writing style, as it came off as something akin to what you'd see on something like Fox News.
I really don't mind if writers include their own opinions, and it is usually handled pretty well on the Escapist with the writer including a blurb of their own thoughts at the end, prefaced with something like, "in my opinion," or "I personally believe," and then usually followed with an invitation for people to share their own thoughts and whether they agree or disagree. Including those opinions in the main bulk of the article and presenting them as fact though just seems really unprofessional, and makes the post seem more like blog articles as opposed to news, and well, since the section is simply labeled as "news" I would assume this isn't what the Escapist is going for.
It certainly isn't in every article though, and this is in no way meant to insult any of the writers. The actual writing quality, even in the biased posts, is still solid. The actual nature of the content is just what I'm a little dubious about. Maybe I'm looking too deeply into it, but I'm curious to see if other people believe this to be an issue, albeit a relatively rare one.
