I had my eye on this game for a long time, Ever since it came out. In the good ole days, when I sucked so hard at Gaming that I created an internal vaccum that sucked up every piece of food in the room, I used to play and Love Dynasty warriors. Not so much for the gameplay. More for the numbers in the bottom right hand corner, rising steadily. I adored the body count.

I bought this game yesterday for 9.99, and looked up the reviews on it. No better than the last time I checked, they still slaughtered it for its repetitive gameplay, and terrible Voice acting.

I agree thoroughly on both these points: The gameplay can get repetitive, and the voice acting, especially for the seventeen year old girl, make me wince in sympathy to my ears.

But regardless of this, I still enjoy this game. Its still a step up from Dynasty warriors, where the more vicious attack you did kept you on the ground, and all of your opponents within three feet of you. In N3, the strength of your attacks launch you into a swirling blade machine of death, and your opponents fly off in every direction. And the Kill count is even more insane.

The character you play as, any character, makes the entire cast of Dynasty warriors look like wannabe stick insects with cotton balls glued onto their upper arms. When compared to any of your opponents, 'Dominant' doesn't cover it. 'Jason Voorhees when he could out about the minigun' could suffice, if the Minigun was a sword. Wielded by someone who will kill a thousand warriors on the battlefield, and then probably go laugh at the grieving families.
Seriously, you wonder if your 'guards' are using Nerf bats. I watched a group of heavy infantry go after a solitary goblin. One Goblin. And I still had to kill it so I could shout at them properly for wasting my time.

In Dynasty warriors, I was ecstatic the day I reached 1000 dead warriors crushed beneath my triumphant sandals, In this game, I kill twenty people by blinking. If this game had blood, the fluid of my enemies would make rivers burst their banks and kill thousands more.

The game world is nice, considering how old the game is; and the character detail (well, main characters) are well done. They make sure you don't see the up close and gritty polygons by Keeping the camera about 10 feet away from your character, as though nailed in place, until you tell it to move over there, so it can catch your better side slicing through a battalion.

Guards in the game are wastes of time. As I mentioned before, They will run screaming towards a single goblin, while a group of archers place bets on their kill count. Regularly, its zero, because archers suck too. I remember telling my guys to defend, and took the proverb 'What you don't know can't hurt you', and proceeded to block my camera. This wasn't that big a deal, as it was awesome to watch my enemies fly into the air for no apparent reason.

Now, to the bad bits.

The aforementioned Repetitiveness. It exists. Although if not taken in too big a dose, N3 can probably keep you going a lot longer than other repetitive games. And, I feel, its still not as horrid as Final Fantasy, where every third step you take will cause another group of smart arse lizard men to jump up, ignoring the bodies in your wake, and proceed to attack, with the mindless suicidal determination of an explosive Lemming. And of course, because we're all gentlemen and scantily clad ladies here, we take turns. At least in N3 you don't have to wait for the enemy to deliberate between its big stick and thunder.

The lack of Checkpoints, and more infuriating lack of Health potions.
It adds a kind of sick realism to it, the fact that if you let too many shots through, like your enemies, you're going to be just another dead body under a pile of dead bodies. But still, it is iritating when your on a tenth of your health, you have about three minutes of mission left, and these cheap stingy fuckers decide that no, we'll keep the health potions for the afterlife. And then I get cut down by a lucky shot from a shaman.
Another thing: I fucking hate Shamen. Anyone who can bring lighting down on my head will be killed painfully, and I will jump on thier corpse from now on.

Thats basically it, I only bought it yesterday, and played about 9 hours so far. I might change this when more comes to light, but my diagnosis is basically:
N3 is a good fun game, so long as you don't try to power through it. Take it slow. Make it last. It can have replay value, as long as you don't go quickly.

Sincerely,
Mr.BucketHat. (Esquire)

I played through N3. Its wasn't really anything special. I remember the chapter playing as the goblin is actually the most interesting. As for gameplay I felt there was no variety, bursting through wave after wave of endless, faceless, samey orcs and goblins. With Dyanasty Warriors there is actually quite a decent amount of versatility and it depends on your playstyle as well as what kind of missions you like to play. That isn't present in N3. It was a fun time waster for the 8 or 9 hours it took me to beat but by no means would I recommend picking it up for a price larger than $5(Canadian).

I can't finish the last mission as Inphyy. It's just impossible! The goblins are frog-monsters are easy. The Army of Darkness, however, are not.

Dynasty Warriors atleast has lovable characters and a story that doesnt make you feel like you are playing a sequal. Dynasty Warriors is way better than N3 could ever be.
But aside from that, if they try hard, the sequal they said they were making may be worth it. It will still probably be considered bad but still.

You pretty much need to be level 9 and use the butterfly combo on EVERYTHING. N3 was great, I loved it, very fun.

You forgot how you get drowned in enemies until you can't see yourself anymore and can only hope that the golden flashes in the crowd are you kicking arse.
