Nintendo Lets You Walk With Nothing but Pikachu

If you're fond of the ubiquitous yellow mouse that is the iconic mascot of Pokemon, Nintendo is offering a special Pokewalker route all through April that will let you catch special Pikachu - and nothing but Pikachu.

Before (and since) the launch of SoulSilver [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=75774] here in the West, Nintendo has been heavily hyping up its Pokewalker accessory, a device that lets you train your Pokemon by walking, find items, and even catch new critters when you don't even have your DS with you!

Naturally, given that fully unlocking the Pokewalker came with the rare Jirachi [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/99148-HeartGold-and-SoulSilvers-Pokewalker-Requires-Thousand-Mile-Trek].

Now, Nintendo is letting Pokefans of all ages take a special walk through the Yellow Forest, a wooded route that contains everybody's favorite electric rat. Only available from April 1st to April 30th, the Yellow Forest will be available via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection [http://www.pokemongoldsilver.com/us/#/news/yellow-forest], according to the official site. Download it, and stroll away with the Pikachu!

The Yellow Forest will allow trainers to catch Pikachu that learn moves they ordinarily wouldn't, like male Pikachu that Surf and female Pikachu that... Fly? Okay, I get the Surfing thing, because it's been around the Pokemon world before [http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Surfing_Pikachu_(Wizards_Promo_28)]. But Fly? How the hell does a Pikachu Fly you from Goldenrod City all the way to Olivine City? What, does it have a jetpack or something?

...hold on, I think I need to call Nintendo and tell them about an awesome idea I just had.

A friend of mine surmised that Pikachu flight would be similar to Magneto or the movie M.Bison. Or maybe it gets its balloons back from Pokemon Snap, which the image seems to suggest.

...

But damn it, who doesn't want to see a Pikachu fly via electromagnets?

Maybe one of the items you can unlock for your Pikachu is a sombrero [http://pressthebuttons.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83452033569e20120a5b6d54c970c-800wi]?

Well... yay? I guess those Pikachu fanatics can now actually get an entire team of Pikachus, not having to use any other Pokemon.

Jetpack? Did you not see the balloons?

I wonder if the in-game sprite will reflect this...

Pikachu flying has something to do with Pokemon Snap, and the card they released that had a Pikachu that could fly on it. That's probably where they got the idea.

Woo, about time that thing returned. Been waiting for an in game one ever since they confirmed surfing Pikachus way back when. I was a wee bit of a Pokemon Snap addict...

The image tells me the flying pikachu will use balloons.

Which I'm probably alone in thinking is actually MORE awesome than a jetpack.

Pokemon dash flying pikachu? I popped all the balloons just to see him fall on hot magma.
Anyway, I want a Pokewalker! (even though my DS is currently dead, a.k.a. snapped in half.)

Oh yes, he can Fly. He can Fly like no Pikachu has done before, for he...
... Has balloons!!

I'm excited for this though, since this'll be the first time in forever that I've been able to hold a legit Surfing Pikachu.
