Nintendo World/TRU event Pokemon: acceptable gimmick, or annoying promotional tool?

So after getting an Action Replay, I finally figured out how to put in the codes so as to be able to get the items needed to find Shaymin, Darkrai, and Arceus. For the curious, I did this AFTER winning against the Elite Four and Champion so as not to feel like I'm cheating TOO much, because it would have felt wrong to come in there and effortlessly wipe them out with uber-Pokemon. But...the fact still stands that unless you use an AR, and you missed those events, you are forever screwed out of getting these ultra-Legendary Pokemon. Is this an acceptable tactic on Nintendo's part? Really, when you think about it, it's very much like what Scamco has tried to pull on us with DLC that's actually meant to unlock content you should have access to...and since the data for the Pokemon is ON the game card, and there is no way for actual DLC to be put on there (when you "download" the things, they're really just special commands that turn some switches on or off in the game itself), do you think Nintendo is right in milking this so much? I realize there are alternate methods for obtaining them (apparently one of the upcoming spinoff games lets you get a Shaymin as your big reward, much like Colosseum and XD let you get the birds from Gold and Silver), but still...

In some parts i agree with you. The fact that most of the end game stuff is dependednt on to "catching them all" it is a tad unfair.

But i guess you would have to be into pokemon that much to want to catch them all and from there would want to go to nintendo events anyway.

whilst not a major pkmn fan, i do have dimond and so i guess that maybe you could get them in platinum?

if not then it is a gimmick of stupid proportions becuase with the birds at least they were getable, they just let you catch it again really

Those events are crazy, majority of people will get those pokemon through the AR. Buying a Spinoff game is one thing, but I am not going to some event in New York or Japan for a sprite in a game.

I cant blame you for using a AR after you basicly beat the game anyway, they could give the pokemon away.

Something they should implant in the games itself could be like:

<Have a level 100 of (very rare non legendairy pokemon here) as your first in the team then you have a 1% spawnchance of it in YY location>

I did have a Mew in Red back in the days, but that was due to a friend having it when he went on holiday in the USA and traded it with a guy he met there.

Oh Mew was just something people wanted so they could say they had it, Mewtwo however was a pokemon who actually kicked ass.

Oh deffo.

MewTwo with Psychic/Recover/Substitute [http://www.math.miami.edu/~jam/azure/attacks/s/substitute.htm]/random move was basicly unkillable even in link battles

I think Rayquaza,Deoxys and Jirachi are overhyped, legendary pokemon after the 2nd generation took a dive.

EDIT:No pun intended.
