Nintendo's 3DS was a joke.

Nintendo has recently filled a press relalese stating that the 3DS was a simple prank held by the company.

"We have no intentions of jumping into the market of 3D gaming. In fact, we have no plans to release another handheld video game console for another couple of years. The Nintendo DS has sold over 125 million units worldwide as of 2010. We apologize to our fans [...]", said Reggie Fils-Aime, current President and CEO of Nintendo of America.
