It doesn't have to be your one favorite of all time game. If you have more than one, just pick one. If it is your absolute favorite though, all the better.

Also, the nitpick has to be absolutely as trivial as possible, but something that genuinely irks you.

I'll give you mine as an example;

Red Dead Redemption is a pretty fantastic game all around, but I cannot stand Jack Marston's stupid, stupid mustache.

[small](Also, I wasn't sure if this counted as a 'game', but please feel free to move it if thou doth deem it so, honorable mods)[/small]

Mischief Makers: The graphics are showing their age, the game isn't realistic at all, and the game is insanely silly at points, example riding a cat while surfing a missile.

Sure, why not?

Bioshock.

- The moral choice system is shallow and feels as if it was crowbarred in entirely for the sake of being there. What's more, there's barely any reason to take the evil option since Tenenbaum's gifts give you enough adam to almost make up the balance.

- Weapons could stand to be a lot more inventive. We're in a steampunk-ish undersea would-be utopia and we're still being handed the ol' pistol, SMG, shotgun, grenade launcher etc. Although I guess the plasmids kinda make up for it.

- The vita-chambers are silly. They defang all the threats by making death have no consequence. Fortunately you can turn them off in the options, but still...

- The game takes a decided dip in quality during the final act. Basically, everything after the Ryan confrontation carried a distinct hint of "meh".

- The game is way too easy overall. By the third level you'll be swatting big daddies down with relative ease, which is a shame since they were awesome enemies and it would have been nice for them to remain threatening. I have no problem keeping things accessible to newcomers, but that's what the 'easy' setting is for.

- A proper neutral ending would have been nice, rather than just the evil ending with the voiceover being read in a slightly different tone of voice.

- It's a great game. If you haven't played it I recommend looking into it.

Final Fantasy 7: Why didn't they take the character models from the battles and use those for the entire game? It obviously wasn't an issue of processing power for the PS1.

Age of Empires II: Age of Kings & Conquerors. The population limit of 200 is way too less. Walls and castles become utterly useless fortifications when faced with trebuchets and battering rams. Siege ballistas, also known as "scorpions", are useless unless they are in mass numbers, except that they cost way too much gold to be ever used efficiently.

Was start of 3d, and polygons are easier to render active movement. For the battles they could just a simple and small stock of more detailed images.

Think of it another way, Polygons were safe, the combat tested the limits.

OT:
STALKER series
Biggest Nit that needs picking, WAAAAAY to easy to get lost/confused about what you are doing. The upside, once you get back on the train you can ride it for a few good stops. However, killing the wrong people has the consiquence that it fucks the story a bit.
Also, bugs up the ass (Main contributor to the getting lost)

That said, I still love and am hooked on the game because, even factoring the nits, it immerses me like no other game and is just pulled off so well and has just enough depth and breath beyond the story to fill my appatite.

Starcraft: First off, why the hell is there no difficulty setting for the computer on custom games? Secondly, team management shouldn't depend on making a custom map for different alliances. Meaning I shouldn't have to go to the campaign editor to make a map just so that I can have Human and Comp vs 2 computers. Computer on Zerg is near impossible to beat because it sends 6 zerglings within the first 2 minutes. Finally unit management is a mess with the inability to select more than 12 units at a time and the algorithms for the units to move around are kind of choppy.

Diablo 2: Duriel on any difficulty and The Countess on Hell difficulty. Some of these boss encounters are absolutely impossible to beat because they have so much defense, immune to too many things, and is regenerating. Especially for the Sorceress when she has absolutely no defense whatsoever and is very susceptible to mana burn each time she gets hit. But then again it is Hell difficulty for a reason.

Fallout 3 is a great game, by far one of my favorite games of all time, but at times in third person I could not get my character to put his arms straight down. I don't mean his arms were totally vertical and skyward, more like he looked like a gunfighter.

Mass Effect 2. FTL space travel breaks the laws of physics. Everyone speaks the same language. Mass Effect 2 more like Gears of War 2 Space Edition AMIRITE? Bioware came to my house and insulted my wife's cooking and kicked my dog.

These aren't opinions I actually hold but it's fun to pretend to hold these opinions because people actually do and make a long series of youtube videos about them set to classical music that others say are brilliant but if were actually made into a game would have been pretty terrible.

Red Dead Redemption...the fact that there hasn't been any more single player content since Undead Nightmare (my favourite DLC ever). The tiny glitches that I never actually experienced because installing the game to my hard drive worked wonders. The multiplayer doesn't have as much of a following as it should. John Marston sometimes clips on scenery, which can be annoying, especially when you're trying to get him to go through doors.

That's all I've got.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee.

While I do believe it's a great game, it's almost impossible to find every single mudokon in the game unless you had a guide of some sorts. Exoddus fixed that issue by having piles of brew bottles indicate where secret areas are.

Hrm, too many favourites. I'll just take Fallout 3.

I WANT MOAR DLCs SO I CAN POUR MORE HOURS INTO YOU GODDAMNIT¨
Also, stop fucking crashing at the most unexpected times. I am a quicksave maniac but when I do somehow forget it, CRASH. Also, the moral system could've been better, as well as the character running and jumping animations. It would've been good if you actually gained as much even if you were a total dick as you would've if you were a saint. I can't stand playing the game in third person because the character just looks so ridiculous when it runs.

Hrm, other than that I can't think of anything besides all the minor glitches. But I love it anyway.

Those are actually pretty legitimate criticisms...I'm not sure they'd qualify as nitpicks.

I choose Bully. Like any game, it does have some genuine problems, but here's something trivial:

You can't go in anyone else's room in the boy's dorm. You're allowed to sneak into the girls' building and steal their underwear, but you can't enter the rooms of your fellow boys? For that matter, how come you're the only one who gets an entire room all to yourself?

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker:

Why can't the Triforce pieces be found in dungeons instead of treasure hunting? Treasure hunting was boring.

Why do you have Tingle? I hate that guy.

This is fun, I'm gonna try another one.

Mass Effect 2

- The whole idea of the Lazarus project is derp-tastic. The notion of being able to bring a person back to life strains the good ol' suspension of disbelief something fierce. But they didn't even do anything interesting with it. With the exception of a few scenes, the whole literally-back-from-the-dead angle carries no weight whatsoever. Why kill off the protagonist when they're back in the fight after just one cutscene?

- The visual design of the female characters. More specifically, Miranda's skintight bodysuit and Jack's cupless leather boob-harness... thing. Yeah, it's basically the old 'chainmail bikini' complaint in a different setting. See, nobody dresses like that outside of a comic convention and especially not when they're expecting to enter combat on a regular basis. I suppose you could argue that the designs suit the character's personalities, but surely your artists can convey "stuck up perfectionist with daddy issues" and "primal nihilist who no longer gives a shit" without resorting to this. Oh, and then there's Samara. A vigilante warrior-monk who runs about in high heels and what looks like a cleavage-friendly swimsuit with pauldrons? Yeah, we all know what's going on here, especially since you were clearly able to resist the temptation to dress Grunt in an armoured thong. Seriously Bioware, you're classier than that. If I want to see scantily clad hot chicks on a screen (and hey, who doesn't every now and again?) then I'll just consult the internet.

- Planet scanning. Seriously, what the fuck? How did that get through without a single person raising their hand and pointing out that it was really fucking boring? Granted, it was less tedious and time-consuming than driving around a palette-swapped mountain range in a tank apparently built of solid helium, but that's not saying much.

- You do not need to use security mechs as enemies in damn near every level. Hell, it's a wonder that anyone uses them at all since half the time they're apparently going rogue or getting hacked.

- Is it just me, or are Thane's legs bizarrely short? If all your aliens are going to look suspiciously humanoid then you can at least get the proportions right.

- Arrival sucked donkeys. The plot had more holes than... a thing full of holes. (Spoilers follow) Most prominently, why would an indoctrinated person explain to Shepard exactly how to fuck up the Reapers' day, then helpfully maintain the systems required to do so despite having at least several days to sabotage them?

- Despite the above, the game is awesome.
