So today I woke up to find my system32 has been corrupted (completely my fault for running a few experiments to make an old game work). While I was reinstalling windows I got to thinking what people would do if all of a sudden their computers just werent there anymore. I know I feel rather lost without it and I got to thinking of the endless hours I spend on this thing and how much it has become something of a friend of mine.

So what would you do if you suddenly were no longer able to use your computer?

Take it outside and use the nearest blunt object on it. It's been pissing me off the entire time I've had it, so that would be a nice anger release.

Well schoolwork would become more inconvenient than ever. Otherwise I'd still be a console peasant so screw you PC gamers! (joking of course). I'd probably do more tabletop rp and reading instead.

My computer died on me last year. It was the worst month ever. Ended up losing all my music, which was a bigger pain.

I'd probably be pissed, more due to the fact I couldn't edit videos or do graphic design anymore, which is a huge hobby for me. But are we talking our PC's got stolen, or every PC in the world is gone? Cause if every PC in the world weren't there anymore, we'd be royally boned.

Girl...friend...?

Is that one of those funny looking avatars with the thinner bodies and an exorbitant amount of pectoral armor?

And if I didn't have my computer I'd go back to analog recording I guess

I was thinking more on a personal level because if every pc in the world just stopped I think there would be an apocalypse simply because just about everything is recorded in 0's and 1's these days. Plus the enviromentalists would shit bricks as to how much paper we are going to use without them.

That happened with an external I had which had nearly 25 gigs of music on it. However I recently got the thing ripped out of its plastic coffin and am working on resserecting the dead.

One step at a time we need to work on social skills and hygeine and then probably reducing a large amount of expectation induced by porn.

It's happened to me twice. The first time, my power supply had died and the computer wouldn't turn on. I was slightly freaked that I'd lose all my files, and pissed that a brand-new power supply had died.

The second time my computer seemed to overheat (then crash or freeze and THEN crash). If I left it for a half-hour or so, I could get maybe 10 minutes of internet browsing before it screwed up. At first I thought my little brother had snuck onto my PC and got some kind of super virus. I tried everything. Virus scans (they never had enough time though) and I eventually tried to re-install the OS. Eventually I figured out the the processor had worked itself loose from the motherboard and couldn't cool off properly. All it took was a 7 dollar tube of thermal grease and it was fine. my files were on a USB drive so I didn't lose anything except save games.

Damn thing is more trouble then it's worth...

Okay. Well then I would still be really pissed. I mean I have other hobbies, but my PC is pretty integrated into my life. Plus, if I lost my PC then my brand-new $600 DSLR camera would be useless. And I would be sad. But I'll say it shamelessly. My computer is a huge part of my life. So many people view that as a bad thing, but the PC is a great piece of technology. So why not use it and integrate it? Of course, if it hits a point where its an addiction, then you should re-think how much time you use it. But that's true of everything, from PC's, to TV, to reading.

I would be very unhappy.
I don't want to have to use the school computers for work...or to come here for hours on end.
Now I have to spend the next hour hugging my computer and making sure it's not going anywhere...thanks.
:p

I would wallow around in misery for a couple of days and then go skate or something. Luckily I picked up on some extra activities before settling down with my computer.

It's weird, my computer just became unusable a few days ago when I tried installing, yep, Windows 7. So for now I'm just going to my school's tech center... all the time.

AAAARGH I HATE NOT HAVING A COMPUTER
