So early this morning I heard on the radio that an elementary school in Seattle, Washington organizes an annual Easter egg hunt. "Well that's nice I thought, though not particularly news worthy." and in a normal case it wouldn't have been mentioned. The reason the DJs were discussing the topic was that the school had decided this year to use the term "spring spheres" as "Easter eggs" might offend someone. Really?!? Now I understand no wanting to be prejudiced but are we seriously so worried about political correctness that the term Easter egg needs to be banned?

This is a website with a small article about the incident. If you think I'm lying (cause I didn't believe it when i heard it) or just want to see it for yourself

And this link is the actual radio station with a posted audio of the broadcast

"We" are not "seriously worried" about anything. There's always going to be at least one person who'll latch on to political correctness for fear of offending someone, even when the risk of offence is borderline non-existent, because they don't have the balls to do otherwise.

It's not a big deal.

If it was on Fox then this probably happened;
They probably took double thier legal limit of caffine and sugar and dreamt that up while they were smashing computer chiars with thier chins.

Really i dont think anyone is going to take the opinion of some guy on the radio to heart either.

Easter eggs are a tradition, you only stop traditions, not change them.

Oh, dear, goodness.

By doing that they're actually causing more harm than good by causing the anti-PC bods to rise up and slame it as oppressing people's views and faith.

Me, I just think that's rediculous. An Easter egg is an easter egg. It's surely not offending anyone of non-christian faith by being called that. Oh, dear, me.

Well, they're not spherical anyway, so throw that onto the pile of reasons this is a really stupid idea.

DUMB DUMB DUMB DUUUUUUUUUMB!!!!

That's stupid. Barring the fact that calling it an easter______ shouldn't offend anyone, they're not even spheres! They're eggs!!!

Put me down for a vote of "never happened".

I'd suggest someone misheard a teacher say 'so who's organising the easter egg hunt now that "spring's here"

Just like no-one 'banned Christmas', and the EU didn't in fact rule that bananas have to adhere to a certain level of curvature to be legal to sell, or that they're scrapping selling eggs in boxes of six.

It's generally all made up by Fox or in the UK, the right wing press to make us all scared that Europe/immigrants/the left/the BBC/Muslims have so much power that they're changing everything!

Of course, it's possible it happened, in which case there's one instance of one person being a bit silly and going a little bit too far to not cause offence to people, and I'm sure it'll come up, be discussed, and a sensible rule will be made.

It's like a guy complained to the council because the local cafe's vent was blowing cooking smells pretty much directly into his house. Managed to get reported along the lines of 'Muslims demand cafe stops cooking bacon'. Wasn't about bacon or muslims, was about a simple case of bad building planning.
