No resolutions listed on XBone games

So my store gets their copies of Ghost in for the xbone and since the whole resolution gate I check the box and there is NO resolution listed at all for the game. Not next to how many players and if it's online or not, not in the fine print, no where what so ever. Since Xbox one, the real xbox one games were REQUIRED to list resolution or if they were hd at least or not before 480,720,1080p became a thing. I get it sucks having to say the game only runs at 720p but now they are just withholding information we've been getting on game boxes for decades!

You don't like being able to tell how the game is going to look from just looking at the box? Hell that's how I decided last gen if I was buying it on 360 or PS3.

Well I would but then companies might think it will make them look bad later on saying you have to be online to play your pc game or go through steam and decide to just not put that on the box. or hell maybe they want to high pc requirements lets not list those anymore.

The information that you're asking for is something that has NEVER been a standard feature on game boxes. The resolutions listed on game boxes have always been about TV compatibility, and are not the actual rendering resolution. That's why all Xbox 360 games list "1080p" capability even though few of them natively render at 1080p; the 360 will scale the image to 1080p before outputting it.

The number only corresponds to native resolution when scaling isn't being used. So for instance, original Xbox games that list "720p" are typically capable of rendering with 720 lines. But when you're dealing with consoles that have standard scaling features (like the 360, XBO, and PS4), the resolution on the back of the box doesn't have anything to do with native rendering resolution.

And if you've been using the number on the box to compare native resolutions this gen, you've been using it wrong. No, Halo 3 does not render at 1080p. It supports 1080p output, but it renders at a mere 1152x640 (only about 1/3rd as many pixels as 1080p).

I am getting both consoles prior to 2014, and the comments where people say they can tell the difference between 720 and 1080p is troubling. If you are playing on a screen 50 inches or less and can tell the difference, we seriously need to dissect your eye balls for science. Clearly, if you are playing on an extremely large screen, you can tell the difference, but 99% of players will not be able to tell if the ONLY difference is resolution. PS4 is more powerful. One is more versatile. 99% of people will not care about extra power or more versatility.

That whole "resolutiongate" thing just gets a "Big fucking whoop!" from me. I couldn't give a flying fuck so long as the game itself is good. I'd be perfectly happy with next-gen games looking the same as this generation if there was "more" everywhere else.

If I really cared about resolution, I'd be building a PC anyway, not playing on console. I'm not saying there isn't a difference between 720p and 1080p, but I do laugh at those who think the former is some apocalypse scenario for gaming.
