I don't know why, but it's true... for some reason the presence of water makes people dislike the level regardless of what style of game it is. How come?

Perhaps you don't like water? My friend doesn't like levels with water in and she also does not like the sea, it creeps her out.

I like water levels when done right...but most devs don't know how to do it right...like making the water a death threat as if its lava or something.

Cause most gamers grew up in a generation where water meant bad because your character must of had polio in their legs or something that was only activated by the presence of water.

At least, thats' how it is for me. Any time i see water in a level, i feel a shudder but also feel the need to walk up to it and see if i can swim or not.

Not sure why that would be. To dislike water levels would mean to dislike Sonic 3's Hydrocity Zone, which I believe to be impossible.

I really don't care for water levels, mainly because I love the water and most devs don't execute the physics/look right. I'm looking at you, Modern Warfare 2. Black Ops was a step in the right direction, though- Victor Charlie represented the water in the level very well.

4 reasons I can think of off the top of my head:
Legend of Zelda
KH2 Atlantis (the first one's too in a lesser extent)
Assassin's Creed (The Acre assassination on the paranoid knight)
Most sewer missions in games.

It's not water levels I don't like.

It's fricken Sky Cities.

Also most people dislike Water levels because 3D puzzles get confusing and annoying after a while, and water levels tend to be long.

Yeah I find water levels creep me out. I can't stay in the water for too long or I have to stpo or get someone else to do it. I don't like going in the sea myself which is strange - totally irrational.

I feel the same way with any water in any game, must see if I can swim, but I'm sure I'm the only one who tries twice too see if it was a fluke...

I hate water or sewer levels, mostly because the developers like populating the water with all sorts of beasties. For example, Anoat Sewers scarred me for life because of this thing:

(bear in mind I was only seven or so at the time)

Also, I hate having to swim through underwater obstacle courses while worrying about running out of air.

Nah, I dont try twice. you can usually tell if you're going ot be killed because its pretty much once you waste deep and the water still seems flat you cant swim. Or if you just land in the water and are instakilled.

Actaully, That kinda reminds me of a funny story. I was playing Blood Omen 2 on the Gamecube and I knew my character couldnt swim and they told me he was hurt by water. So I was oka, thats... interesting, especially if there was going to be weather effects and avoided ALL water. THen I got caught under some dripping and I was like, oh oka, cool, so maybe its just deep water and its a way to keep you in boundaries on the map. Then I stepped in this deep puddle on the ground and started slowly losing health.

So yeah, thats why I dont trust water in games.

They don't introduce swimming controls properly, but the devs realize they finished the underwater level, so they just cram it in somewhere.
Yes, you, Devil May Cry.

Who knows what monsters await in the deep blue. Humans aren't meant to be underwater so most likely it is scary for some.
